Midnight feast to ensure that end users can renew Microsoft licences up to the last minute.

Storage distributor Ideal Hardware will remain open until midnight on July 31st so that users can avoid increased licence charges and stay legal.

“There is little doubt that end-users who have not been contacted about the changes will not forgive their resellers come 1 August when their Microsoft costs have risen sharply”, says Alex Tatham, vice president of global software distribution, Bell Microproducts, Ideal Hardware’s parent company.

‘Because of the evaluation issues, costs, numbers of licences required etc which end users must make prior to final decisions on licences many end users are leaving it to the last minute to update their licences, but they are also risking price hikes if they miss the deadline,’ says Tatham.

Microsoft’s Licensing 6.0 scheme comes into force on 1 August. It means that corporate customers that do not get their software licensing upgraded before the deadline will have to pay the full price for new licences after that date.

Ideal Hardware is offering the following assistance:

1. Ideal will open until midnight on 31 July to ensure all reseller customers can place their orders until the very last moment. Customers from all over Europe can still place their orders on LDi, Ideal’s unique license tool until midnight and Ideal will still process those orders and get them to Microsoft in time for the deadline.

2. Unitel – its telemarketing service which is providing resellers with a free call-out service. Resellers supply a database of 200 end-user contacts which Unitel call free of charge informing those contacted of the changes and then closing all opportunities. This innovative approach helps to ensure resellers don’t make the mistake of not informing their customers of the license changes Microsoft are making.

3. All of Ideal’s sales people and license specialists are available to work on a reseller customer site on 31 July to help with the expected overload in enquiries and orders. Any customer wishing to take advantage of this offer should contact their account manager at Ideal on 020 8286 5000 and arrange appropriate times well in advance. “I expect the levels of business to go through the roof that day” says Mark Johnson, Ideal’s Software Product Manager.

4. LDi is fully available for any reseller sales force. This ensures that any reseller salesman can be a license expert within minutes and can take advantage of the current opportunity. The web-based, XML tool is available on-line at http://www.myboris.com

“The key message is not to wait until the last minute, but if you do – Ideal are there to ensure that resellers do not miss the boat,” says Tatham. “If resellers have yet to call out their database, then they should do it immediately. You must give your end-users an opportunity to find the money for Upgrade Advantage. Ignore the deadline at your peril”.
