NEW STERLING COMMERCE MODULAR PRODUCT STRATEGY DELIVERS ADVANCED INTEGRATION CAPABILITIES FOR GENTRAN CUSTOMERS

London, July 24th, 2002 – Sterling Commerce today announced Gentran Integration Suite, a modular software suite designed to put Gentran customers on the path to a strategic integration platform.

Gentran:Server is Sterling Commerce’s translation software designed to handle high-volume messaging in a distributed computing environment. With more than 6,000 Gentran:Server customers worldwide, the suite is designed to quickly offer many new capabilities as well as provide a path to evolving a strategic integration platform by offering new functionality as needed.

Gentran:Server customers will receive a base version of Gentran Integration Suite as a free maintenance upgrade, which instantly marks Sterling Commerce as a leading worldwide provider of integration. The base version includes enhancements to Gentran:Server such as improved document tracking and thin client administration.


The Gentran Integration Suite is powered by Sterling Integrator, a next generation integration broker software solution, which was first introduced to the US market last year. Sterling Integrator is built on J2EE-based architecture and supported by a BPML-based business process engine. With Sterling Integrator as a basis for the suite, Gentran:Server users can deploy a state-of-the art integration broker architecture for both internal and external business systems integration while totally preserving the EDI functionality of their production Gentran:Server environment.


Additional options of the suite, which are available for licensing separately, include Web services integration, an integration broker, business process management, real-time cross-application event monitoring, integrated human workflow, partner self-service and support for sophisticated B2B protocols such as ebXML, EDI-INT, RosettaNet and UCCNet.

Gentran Integration Suite alters the economic face of the integration software market by eliminating the typical six- to nine-month evaluation period required by businesses for a major strategic integration broker purchase.

Gentran Integration Suite and Sterling Integrator will be available for the EMEA market by November 2002. Initially, Gentran Integration Suite is available for the Gentran: Server Unix platform and within the next 12 months the suite will be offered to all existing Gentran platforms, including Windows NT/2000, AS/400 and OS/390. Sterling Commerce is the only company offering an integration broker positioned to run on all major operating system platforms.



Gentran Integration Suite modules address the four key areas of enterprise integration needs, allowing customers to initially implement modules that meet immediate needs and add new functionality as those needs expand. Capabilities include:

· Enterprise application integration, including a range of adapters, which are available for licensing separately, to enable seamless flow of information between business applications, as well as data source management capabilities

· EDI trading community management, encompassing all widely used EDI standards

· B2B commerce community management, allowing the integration of trading communities based on emerging Internet-based standards such as XML and RosettaNet, available through separate licensing

· Web enablement, supporting community enablement features that expedite and simplify the participation of trading partners in electronic commerce communities; available through separate licensing
