PowerDsine Delivers First Industry Compliant Power over LANTM Hubs

LONDON, July 29th, 2002 - PowerDsine, the leading provider of Power over
LANTM technology has today launched its 6000 series of Power over LAN *
Midspan devices to deliver power over the Ethernet network. The devices are
targeted at enterprise users and provide dramatic cost savings by
eliminating the need for separate cabling systems to deliver power and data
to network devices such as IP telephones, Wireless LAN access points and web
cameras.

PowerDsine is the first and only vendor currently to offer solutions
compliant with the emerging IEEE 802.3af standard to deliver power over
Ethernet networks. The new PowerDsine 6000 series of hubs operate with
existing Ethernet or Fast Ethernet switches to provide a unified supply of
data and power over the standard Category 5 Ethernet network to devices on
the network. By working in conjunction with a centralised uninterruptible
power source (UPS), the hubs are also able to deliver continuous power
supply to the network devices in the event of a power failure. This
capability not only provides cost savings by removing the need for
individual UPS systems for each network device, but also offers a higher
level of resilience to the network devices by continuing to power them even
when power fails.

PowerDsine has already established business relationships to provide their
Power over LAN TM technology as a Single Inline Package (SIP) to leading
telecoms and networking vendors such as 3Com, Avaya, Nortel, Ericsson,
Siemens, Fujitsu and Proxim. According to Giga Information Group, there are
two major target markets for Power over LANTM technology. Firstly, the
Voice over IP market where the potential of VoIP has been offset by the
threat of loss of phone operation in the event of power failure. The advent
of Power over the LAN therefore removes a fundamental barrier to adoption of
VoIP technology by offering continued phone operation in the event of power
failure. The second application is in wireless LANs that can now have
wireless LAN access points installed in places where electrical outlets do
not exist. Another benefit for this technology is the dramatic reduction in
the cost of installing wireless LANs of up to 75% by removing the need for
separate data and power cabling.

According to Igal Rotem, CEO and Co-Founder of PowerDsine: "The PowerDsine
6000 series is targeted at those organisation with existing Ethernet switch
installations wishing to introduce the cost benefits of Power over LAN to
their enterprise network without needing to upgrade their existing switches.
We have had tremendous interest in this technology from switch vendors,
wireless LAN vendors, VoIP, and network device vendors from an OEM
perspective that already bears testament to the vast potential of this new
technology area. Our company has also recently been honoured with the
Tornado Insider award for Best Emerging Technology Company of 2002. All of
these factors confirm our view that the analyst predictions of a market of
$1.4 billion by the year 2005 are accurate and it is our goal to maintain
and extend our position as the leader in this evolving new market."
