Tornado Virtue plc teams with Macrovision to Launch Virgin’s Digital Download Site

London, England - 30 July 2002 - Macrovision UK Ltd, a subsidiary of Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq: MVSN) and the leading developer and supplier of digital rights management (DRM) and copy protection products, today announced that Tornado Virtue plc (LSE: TDO), Europe's leading Digital Service Provider, is using Macrovision technology to enable Virgin Megastores to provide convenient and secure software downloads. Virgin Megastores, the premier High Street retailer of Entertainment products, recently launched digital software downloads on the Virgin Megastores UK website at http://www.virgin.com/megastores/uk, powered by Tornado and Macrovision infrastructure.

Macrovision’s SAFECAST® software is tightly integrated with Tornado Virtue's Secure Digital Delivery System (SDDS™), which secures, stores and delivers the digital content. SAFECAST ensures that software downloaded from the Virgin Megastores site cannot be used unless paid for, and provides persistent protection from unauthorized copying after downloading, thus discouraging piracy and preserving the publisher’s revenue streams.

"We're very excited to be working with Tornado Virtue and using Macrovision technology in a digital commerce arena, now that we have the infrastructure in place we are looking forward to expanding our offering to our customers," Says Ian Heath, Head of Business Development for Virgin Megastores UK.

"Macrovision’s SAFECAST is a key element in making Tornado Virtue's Secure Digital Delivery System a proven, scalable and robust solution that can springboard digital product offerings from retailers and content owners to market quickly," says Neil Ferris, CEO of Tornado Virtue plc.

"Macrovision is delighted to be Tornado Virtue’s software security partner,” added David Simmons, Managing Director of Macrovision EMEA. “Macrovision is the de facto standard for copy protection in the physical world with its SAFEDISC® CD-ROM product, and Virgin’s content publishers want the same security from the same partner when they distribute products and licenses via digital delivery.”
