New solutions standardise most frequently requested services making deployment more efficient and cost effective for customers

Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications company, today (30 July 2002) introduced a suite of new Business Continuity & Recovery Services that will be delivered by its web hosting business unit. The new services offer a combination of consulting and dedicated infrastructure services that enable organisations to avoid downtime of their mission critical applications in any event-planned or unplanned.

With six years experience managing business continuity and disaster recovery services - including business impact analysis, risk assessment and recovery planning consulting, high availability and alternate IT production sites - Cable & Wireless is uniquely qualified to deliver these services to enterprise customers. The new solutions reflect a standardisation of the business continuity and disaster recovery services most requested by Cable & Wireless customers, largely from the financial services, healthcare, and entertainment/media industries. The solutions enable efficient and cost-effective deployment of the Business Continuity & Recovery Services for large to very large companies.

Cable & Wireless' worldwide internet data centres meet stringent redundancy, monitoring, and security requirements and its professional services staff includes Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP), Business Continuity International (BCI) and Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) certified consultants experienced in providing all phases of business continuity and disaster recovery planning. This combination of infrastructure and expertise has enabled Cable & Wireless to help its customers successfully navigate potentially catastrophic events.

In addition to the new Business Continuity & Recovery Services announced today, Cable & Wireless offers disaster recovery services for telecommunications customers, including planning, testing and maintenance, alternate site redirection, and dual parenting. All Cable & Wireless disaster recovery plans include specific recovery time objectives and access to a 24/7 disaster recovery team.

The existing Cable & Wireless disaster recovery services complement the new solutions which include:

Initial consulting services for risk analysis, business impact analysis, contingency planning, and recovery planning to help customers determine which solution or combination of solutions is appropriate for their needs.

A "cold site" offering that provides space, physical security, racks, power and connectivity from the data centre to the outside world, an alternate data processing site and a recovery time objective of greater than 72 hours. Cable & Wireless Quick Ship Service and Mobile Recovery Centre may be added to provide a complete solution for temporary hardware replacement and office space. Cold Site Space is available to customers within 24 hours of declaring a disaster or an unforeseen event along with a "no lock-out" guarantee.

A dedicated "warm site" offering that builds on the cold site offering to include a pre-configured environment for their mission critical applications, the equipment necessary to recover as determined in the contingency plan and provisioned by the customer, and a recovery time objective of greater than 12 hours.

A dedicated "hot site" offering that builds on the dedicated warm site offering, adding a live site for mission critical applications, any necessary managed services such as monitoring, security and maintenance and a recovery time objective of less than 12 hours.

The dedicated hot site solution enables customer to avoid downtime of their mission critical applications in any event, planned or unplanned.
