SUNNYVALE, Ca., October 7, 2002 – Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL), the global leader in business performance management software, was recognized for vision and its ability to execute that vision on the first ever Gartner Corporate Performance Management (CPM) Suites Magic Quadrant.

Gartner defines CPM as the methodologies, metrics, processes and systems used to monitor and manage the business performance of an enterprise. Hyperion uses a similar term, business performance management, to define the company’s solutions that address enterprise needs to enable customers to anticipate results, measure performance and drive profitability. According to Gartner, 40 percent of large enterprises will adopt Corporate Performance Management by 2005. Gartner evaluated vendor viability, functionality, technology, and service and support when placing vendors in the CPM Magic Quadrant.

The report discusses how enterprises can use CPM to improve their planning and control cycles and profiles major CPM players, including enterprise applications vendors, BI vendors and best of breed hybrid players. Companies are evaluated based on their vision and their ability to execute as “leaders,” “visionaries,” “challengers,” or “niche players.” While there were no companies in the leadership quadrant, Hyperion was placed in the “visionaries” quadrant. According to the report, visionaries have a clear vision of market direction and are focused on preparing for that, but they can still improve in terms of optimizing service delivery.
