Whale Communications Launches Clientless VPN Solution with Low Total Cost of Ownership

London, 28th October 2002 - Whale Communications®, a leader in secure web access solutions, in response to market demand today launched one of the first clientless VPN products available in the United Kingdom.

The e-Gap® Remote Access Appliance enables companies to provides employees access to web-based applications residing on the corporate Intranet - e.g. email, ERP, CRM and HR - from any regular web browser, without exposing the organisation's data to attack.

"The rapid demand that we are encountering in the UK for our secure clientless VPN solutions has prompted us to officially launch the e-Gap Remote Access Appliance," said Daniel Steiner, Whale's co-founder and president. "We have blue chip customers under our belt in the UK and several deals we expect to close soon."

Companies worldwide from a range of vertical markets are using Whale's e-Gap products to give employees, partners and customers secure access to their corporate networks. Some of the leading companies using Whale's solutions are Landkreis Lueneberg, TEVA Pharmaceuticals, Hellenic Bank, Quad Graphics, Dominion Resources, and a Visa franchisee.

In addition to convenience and the increase in productivity of remote users, the appliance also enables companies to save money over traditional IPSec VPN solutions by eliminating the need for each user to have their own dedicated device with pre-installed client software. According to a recent
study by Cisco Systems, in addition to software costs, IPSec VPN management expenditures alone can run as much as £19 per user per month.

The award-winning e-Gap products offer a user experience similar to that of working from within the office Whale's combined hardware and software solution makes it the most secure clientless VPN product available. All communications are encrypted and subjected to strong filtering against
predefined rules of what each application permits. The appliance's architecture physically separates the internal network from the Internet using air gap technology. In this way, all attacks are stopped without being able to reach a company's internal network.

Analysts expect the clientless VPN market - also known as application level or SSL VPNs - to experience rapid growth. Infonetics Research said in a recently released report that the market would see an estimated 143% compounded annual growth with potential revenues of 1 million worldwide
by 2005.
