Faster detection, isolation and resolution of Web application problems is just one of the enhanced features of Tonic Software’s latest version of the award-winning Web applications management solution, Tonic™ version 3.0 ( Enterprises relying on the Internet to conduct business transactions can now benefit from a single solution that ensures a website – and all the transactions that can be made on it – are running as they should. By traversing the site from a user’s perspective, Tonic 3.0™ includes smarter methods for presenting information in a business context and easier management of the entire Web applications environment.

“Enterprises need tools that can correlate IT components with business services, and then relate the infrastructure problems to the potential business impact,” said Bill Gassman, Research Director, Gartner Group. “Knowing this helps IS operation groups to prioritize support efforts when problems arise and to proactively prevent high-impact problems from occurring. As an additional benefit, a business service view of IT can act as a catalyst for discussion between the IS organisation and business units to define business processes and priorities.”

Management of an enterprise Web applications environment can be complex, costly and time-intensive. With Version 3.0, Tonic has improved the ease with which large enterprises can configure and manage all Web applications. The product supports configuration and management of internal monitors and remote Points of Presence (PoP) from a central console server, adding to the product’s flexibility and efficiency. Version 3.0 includes a level of scalability and dependability critical for enterprise customers through its policy-based management model and the ability to cluster Tonic servers to collectively perform Web applications management functions.

“Version 3.0 reflects Tonic Software’s ability to listen closely to the requirements of enterprise customers and understand evolving market demands. Tonic is delivering a simple yet elegant solution that can be implemented in days, not years, and show ROI in hours, not months,” said Don Pate, CEO of Tonic Software. “As a result, we’ve changed the way enterprise customers approach managing their complex Web application environments.”

Validation for Tonic’s award-winning product and new line of business support is strong among enterprise customers. Mike Pitts, IT Director, Charles Stanley Ltd, said, “Tonic has the product capabilities we require to address the increased flow of traffic resulting from the expansion of our managed equity trading services.” He continued, “The ability to conduct an “outside-in” examination not only of our Website, but also our Web-based infrastructure and business processes from a customer’s perspective, has delivered an immediate return on our investment. This has lowered our total cost of operations and ensured a seamless user experience for our customers”.

New features added to Tonic 3.0™ improve the speed and efficiency by which Web application problems are detected, probable causes isolated and, when possible, automatically resolved. These include:

· Enhanced probable-cause isolation, offering a dramatic improvement in the ability to differentiate between true problems and symptoms with the Tonic Problem Isolation Engine.

· Out-of-the-box diagnostic tests for databases and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) that deliver a highly accurate method for problem identification.

· The ability to feed and receive an enterprise’s data from its Enterprise System Management (ESM) agents into the Tonic Problem Isolation Engine can ensure optimal ROI and help tie infrastructure-level metrics to an end-user experience. *

· Flexible and precise alert-handling ensures that the right person is alerted with the correct information at the appropriate time.

· The Tonic solution can detect problems from a top-down, end-user perspective and then drill down to isolate problems within WebSphere and WebLogic application server components and application logic. As a result, true probable causes within the most complex management layer can be isolated and resolved quickly, before they negatively impact on an enterprise’s interactions with customers, partners and suppliers.

Version 3.0 offers a smarter and more valuable presentation of critical Web application data from both business and IT management perspectives. More than 15 new reports have been added to enable IT departments to better track Web application performance, understand where methodologies can be enhanced and help identify methods to improve availability and performance.

Other reports provide business managers with the power to track and control how well e-business application objectives are being met, as well as the impact of IT decisions and investments upon the business.

* BMC Software PATROL and Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) are supported today.
