- Hauppauge and Microsoft Team for Windows XP Media Centre Edition

London, England – 30 October 2002 – Hauppauge Computer Works, the world leader on TV-on-a-PC technology, has teamed up with Microsoft to put its WinTV technology into Microsoft's newest addition to the XP family - Windows XP Media Centre Edition. Expected to be available in the UK in early 2003, the new entertainment-focused operating system is designed to allow consumers to manage everything from Word files to music to recording television.

Hauppauge, partners in the Designed for Windows XP logo program, has teamed with Microsoft to optimise its TV capture tuner cards to deliver an enhanced TV-recording experience within Media Center. The Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250, introduced in June 2002, has been integrated with XP Media Centre.

Formerly known as Freestyle, Windows XP Media Centre is expected to ship in the USA just before Christmas, with the UK following shortly after.

Yehia Oweiss, Managing Director of Hauppauge Computer Works in the UK, said, "Microsoft is creating a new market by combining the best of PC and entertainment technology to create a singular operating system for consumers to manage the whole experience. We are delighted to have worked with Microsoft with our PVR-250 technology, and are looking forward to TV becoming commonplace on the PC."

"Media Centre takes Windows XP to the next level and adds a new TV experience that only the power of the PC can deliver. It's an example of how innovation continues to make the PC even more central to people's lives," he added.

Watch what you want, when you want

Hauppauge's WinTV-PVR 250 allows owners to pause live TV just in case they need to answer the phone or grab a drink. The supplied remote control's "pause" button starts recording the current programme to hard disk. On return the user simply presses "play" to resume watching where they left off. The WinTV-PVR keeps on recording the program until the viewer "catches up".

Commercial breaks can be skipped, interruptions can be dealt with, instant replay and slow motion is now possible. New features include x2 playback for fast forwarding to "catch up" with live TV.

Simple Recording

With the WinTV scheduler, users program the Win TV-PVR 250 like a video recorder, but better! The easy-to-use interface allows for daily, weekly or diverse recordings, with a full titled index and instant access to recordings.

Burn DVDs!

Inclusion of Ulead's DVD Factory Special Edition means TV can be recorded to DVD (requires a DVD-R drive) to be enjoyed again and again! For PC owners with a CD-RW, DVD Factory can create VCD and s-VCD disks, which can be played back on domestic DVD players.
