WebCensus Hosted Inventory Helps Corporates Get and Stay Legal

Tally Systems today announced that it is offering the Federation Against Software Theft’s (FAST) corporate members a free software audit for up to 100 PCs using its WebCensus hosted PC inventory service, http://www.webcensus.net , until 31st December 2002. This will help the 2,500 members to achieve FAST’s Audit Certification, which recognises organisations that are managing software properly within the constraints of their environment and the legal framework, and ensure software license compliance should the BSA come knocking at the door.

The benefits of the WebCensus hosted PC audit service include quick results, low risk, cost effectiveness, no installation or maintenance, unsurpassed accuracy and unmatched detail. With a unique net-native architecture, WebCensus can securely and efficiently audit PCs and return inventory results in minutes, so the reports and inventory data can be accessed by IT managers instantly via the web. Because the WebCensus service is hosted, it eliminates the need to install, configure and update complex software so the IT team isn’t burdened with managing additional infrastructure.

Vice-President EMEA of Tally Systems, John Mahon comments, “IT managers often need an inventory of their organisations hardware and software, but just don’t have the time to do it. It’s a problem that faces IT managers everywhere with the growing litany of IT projects for which an accurate inventory is fundamental. So practising software management makes good business sense. Not only can you be confident that you won’t be fined for using unlicensed software, you could also save money. Many companies actually over-buy licenses to ensure license compliance; WebCensus provides an instant, accurate inventory over the web which will highlight this.”

The Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) was established in 1984 by the British Computer Society's Copyright Committee and is the only association in the world to represent both software publishers and end users. Through its own staff and a network of independent consultants, FAST is also able to provide additional help and guidance to meet the needs of its Corporate Members. The offer is available to all FAST corporate members until 31st December 2002. For more information,
