Having successfully established BillPay with around 200 organisations, Alliance & Leicester commercial banking arm Girobank has now developed BillPayPLUS, which enables any organisation to accept credit or debit card payments securely over the internet - through their own website.

This new development comes at a time when the Government is anxious to speed-up the availability of local authority transactional websites in order to meet their 100% delivery target by 2005. So far, they believe, there are only four local authorities with such sites.*

BillPayPLUS provides any authority or organisation with a ready-made, fully secure method of accepting payments on-line. It completely eliminates the need for an organisation to design, test, administer and manage its own on-line payments system from scratch. Additionally, payments are made electronically and management information is delivered in real time.

BillPayPLUS allows a number of products to be included, for example, business rates, council tax, parking fines, rents, homecare, leisure facilities, waste management and utility bills on-line.

The new service is based on Girobank's proven BillPay, which has been established for two years and has a proven track record with more than 100,000 registered users accessing over 450 different services.

Russell Carter, Senior Marketing Manager for Alliance & Leicester commercial banking arm Girobank, said: "The key advantage for bill paying customers of BillPayPLUS is that they have no need to move from an organisation's own website and they can make payments using either credit or debit cards.

"BillPayPLUS is relatively simple to implement and will help councils and other public bodies ensure they are well on track to meeting the Government's 2005 deadline."
