The World's First Standards-Based Wireless Broadband Solution

London and Malmesbury Wilts. 21 Nov 2002 IPWireless today launches Mobile Broadband. Using groundbreaking mobile technology developed in Wiltshire, UK, Mobile Broadband delivers mobile PC Internet access at speeds up to 9Mbps. Based on 3G global standards, Mobile Broadband enables service providers to offer true broadband wireless Internet access to the worldwide consumer and business markets wherever there is mobile phone coverage.

Aimed at the mobile worker, small business and residential markets, broadband Internet access is provided via a small card (PCMCIA) slotted into the laptop. Users will be able to enjoy broadband access everywhere - whether in the office, on the train, in a taxi or at home. Service operators, under pressure over 3G investments, will have major new lines of data revenue. The success of wireless LAN hotspots have shown that users want a true mobile office experience. Mobile Broadband delivers that office experience but is not tied to any location. The IPWireless solution offers mobility, affordability, ubiquity of coverage and speed superior to any broadband alternative - including DSL or cable modems.

Chris Gilbert, CEO of IPWireless, said, with Mobile Broadband, our R&D team in Wiltshire have managed to deliver a solution that represents a real leap forward for the troubled telecoms world. The positive responses we've had from European service providers confirms that Mobile Broadband is set to become a must have. With deals already in the pipeline, there will be a number of European deployments in 2003.

IPWireless Mobile Broadband solution is already a proven technology and is in commercial deployment in a number of cities in North America and in commercial testing with Walker Wireless (jointly funded by Vodafone) in New Zealand. As the solution is based on 3GPP standards for UMTS TDD, the equipment is simple to deploy and integrate with existing networks.

Founded in April 1999. IPWireless is a world-class team comprised of seasoned entrepreneurs, executives and engineers from companies including Motorola, Lucent, Ericsson, Cisco, Qwest Wireless and Pacific Bell, in addition to a wide range of dynamic start-ups. This has enabled IPWireless to become the world's first company to develop and deploy a UMTS TDD high chip rate broadband mobile network solution, which includes not only network infrastructure but the terminal/ modem devices required for subscriber network access.

IPWireless is now poised for significant market growth and customer acquisition, following extensive successful trials and initial commercial deployments with a number of the major network operators in the USA, Europe and Asia.
