Voice reseller to use Cable & Wireless Carrier Pre-Selection services to bring choice and cost savings to its UK business customers

Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications group, today (26 November 2002) announced that Cable Direct, an end-to-end sales, customer management and billing services company, is to re-route all its voice traffic onto Cable & Wireless’ network through Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS). This contract, worth an estimated £12 million a year, extends an existing agreement between the two companies.

The Cable & Wireless CPS solution will enable Cable Direct to divert calls from its 38,000 existing customers onto Cable & Wireless’ network without them having to dial an access code. This will mean reduced call charges and enhanced service for customers, whilst Cable Direct will enjoy closer management of its customers and revenues. With Cable & Wireless CPS, customers of Cable Direct can save up to 30 or 40 per cent on call charges by re-routing voice traffic from an incumbent operator to Cable & Wireless.

Cable & Wireless CPS re-routes the calls at the local exchange rather than at the customer’s premises. Previously, it was necessary to dial a three or four digit access code before each phone call or to install automated diallers on every line. Cable & Wireless CPS does not depend on special equipment or programming and so cannot be accidentally overridden. This makes it a much more reliable and efficient way of ensuring that calls are delivered by the customer’s chosen operator, and that no calls are unintentionally “leaked”, or carried and billed by the incumbent operator.

Cable Direct has recently extended its involvement with Cable & Wireless, and now purchases a variety of services including its non-geographic numbers service. The two companies are also working closely together to develop an internet service for Cable Direct to offer to its customers.

• Access to IP services - Cable & Wireless CPS provides a platform from which to launch other IP services. As its customers use the Cable & Wireless network, Cable Direct will be able to offer a variety of Cable & Wireless voice and IP services to its customers

• Convenience - no need to set up any equipment at the customer’s premises, no PBX reprogramming and no downtime during the changeover to the new routing instructions

• Access to call features - Cable & Wireless CPS customers can use BT features, such as Call
Forwarding, Call Divert and Three-way Calling, while still benefiting from Cable & Wireless’ competitive call charges

• Flexibility - Cable & Wireless CPS enables the customer to choose which type of calls to route through Cable & Wireless.
