LONDON, ENGLAND & AARHUS, DENMARK 29.11.02: Siemens Building Technologies (SBT), the world’s largest supplier of industrial safety solutions and services has selected market-leading Enterprise Content Management and cross-media publishing experts, Stibo Catalog, as a collaboration partner to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its data management processes to strengthen its sales channels.

Stibo Catalog was selected after Siemens conducted an intensive market evaluation and found the company to have a proven track record and detailed knowledge and understanding of the data issues facing enterprises in the twenty-first century.

The project, which will go live in Q2 of 2003, includes the creation of an enterprise-wide data platform, the roll-out of a radical new data sharing and production environment, and the creation of a central media neutral data repository. The first stage of the project will include the creation of a state-of-the-art cross media publishing solution, utilising Stibo’s STEP software, which will be configured to the specific requirements of SBT’s High Voltage Performance Products (HVP) department – which handles more than 10,000 electrical products for construction and engineering.

This centralised data management will improve co-ordination between SBT’s six core business units and its 600 subsidiaries and manufacturing units worldwide and will enable the company to increase productivity and significantly shorten its data supply chains. Siemens Business Technologies is one of the first to use the latest version 4.6 of Stibo Catalog’s best of breed Enterprise Content Management Software (STEP) with new functionality which allows enterprises to create a single store for both commercial and rich product data.

This enables assets such as high resolution images, product descriptions, and prices to be accessed from one secure location. The creation of a single media-neutral data storage repository will enable the company to access, amend and update all product data from any location worldwide, and publish any combination of product catalogs, brochures and marketing fliers on paper, CD and the Internet quickly and easily. The resulting efficiencies will dramatically improve SBT’s speed to market, driving competitive advantage.

Syndication tools in the new version of STEP enable enterprises to publish any combination of this data to both external media, such as catalogs and the e-marketplaces, and internally to ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and e-procurement/e-commerce software (such as ARIBA and CommerceOne) in any file format from XML and UNSPC to BMEcat, Germany’s e-business standard.

Zurich-based SBT, part of the multinational Siemens A/G, handles more than one million engineering and construction contracts every year for its 360,000 clients, and the work conducted by Stibo Catalog is part of a corporate drive for greater efficiency through effective data management. Greater accessibility to product information globally, coupled with guaranteed data integrity will help increase the company’s ability to meet their customers every demand.

Alan Cattell, head of e-business at SBT says, ‘We selected Stibo Catalog because it is one of the few companies with the specific qualifications for successfully carrying out the type of project we are attempting. It was important that the partner we selected proved its ability to not only provide a solution for our current requirements, but have the vision to meet our ongoing product data management and publishing challenges. Stibo Catalog, and its STEP v4.6 Enterprise Product Content Management software met all of our demands.

‘SBT’s global reach requires us to manage data and publish sales and marketing literature in a variety of languages, both single and two-bite languages including Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and Eastern European languages. STEP has the capability to handle them all providing us with considerable efficiencies and economies – which we can pass on to our customers.’

Stibo Catalog’s UK MD and Global Commercial Director, Ian Cashmore, says, ‘Siemens Building Technologies is one of the first of our customers to implement our v4.6 Enterprise Solution which offers the capability for both commercial and rich data to be exchanged and shared throughout the data supply chain. STEP v4.6 is a tool which will enable enterprises to harness the full power of e-business, increasing productivity, reducing the complexity of data chains, and driving competitive advantage through the electronic communication.

‘Stibo Catalog is delighted to have been selected as a collaboration partner by Siemens. Our company has been pioneering developments in data management and publishing since 1794, and in the software arena for three decades.’
