Consul/eAudit 4.1 Enables Smarter Forensics Investigations and Real-Time Security Monitoring

CONSUL risk management, a worldwide IT security software provider specialising in audit and administration solutions, today announced the release of Consul/eAudit 4.1, featuring new security event lifecycle forensics technology.

Consul/eAudits new investigate feature enables security professionals to make more contextually informed responses to security events by quickly constructing and visualising the chain of events leading up to and away from security events. The product has also further extended its real-time support, providing security professionals with instantaneous alerts to security events that, unlike traditional intrusion detection systems (IDS), have been cross-analysed to remove false alarms.

Being presented with an alert notice for a security event is seldom enough information to construct the context and full ramifications of the event necessary steps in determining an appropriate response. In order to fully address the event and ensure that such an event will not happen again, security professionals need to track the events genesis and understand its full lifecycle. Only then will the vulnerabilities, lapses and other weaknesses that contributed to the event be understood and able to be addressed. Traditional auditing solutions and IDS do not provide this complete security picture, leaving security professionals ill-equipped to do their job.

With Consul/eAudit, we not only have more confidence in our network security, but also have regained valuable time that once would have been spent investigating network events, stated Jim Stock, Chief Information Officer and Vice President, The Landrum Company. With the dual benefits of real-time security monitoring and sophisticated auditing and forensics, Consul/eAudit is the right security solution for our needs.

Consul/eAudit collects, consolidates and normalises security events across the entire enterprise. These events are filtered through the active security policies and security exceptions and attentions are highlighted, identifying potential security threats. All events and analyses are preserved for forensic evidence and further analysis if necessary, while Consul/eAudit reports provide a continuous measure of security effectiveness.

Version 4.1 adds and enhances the following features of Consul/eAudit:

Investigate Consul/eAudit 4.1 adds an investigation feature that gives IT and security personnel an electronic detective to research events surrounding a security event. Security events rarely happen as isolated events and the new Consul/eAudit helps capture the entire chain of events for more intelligent response.

Administration Consul/eAudit 4.1 adds the centralised ability to grant and deny user access to its forensics databases, ensuring that even those managing the logs are monitored.

Reporting Consul/eAudit 4.1 has always offered superior reporting functionality with an extensive library of report templates and a custom report wizard. The new version adds 16 more reports to the template library.

Platforms Consul/eAudit 4.1 adds the following platforms to its current family of supported platforms:

Netegrity Siteminder

MS SQL server

iPlanet Webserver

Consul/eAudit continues to set the bar against which all other security audit products are measured, stated Koen Bouwers, CEO of CONSUL risk management. Enterprises request three things from their security audit products: real-time alerts to security concerns; normalisation, consolidation and intelligent filtering so that IT and security personnel dont waste time on false alarms; and strong forensics so that events and trends are clearly understood and documented. With Consul/eAudit 4.1, companies can know that as security events are dealt with, overall corporate security is being hardened as well.

Notes to the Editor:

Consul/eAudit 4.1 is generally available.
