Cardpoint plc announces agreement with LINK to offer Mobile phone ‘top-ups’ via its ATM estate

Cardpoint plc, the first UK quoted independent ATM deployer, announces today that it has signed an agreement with LINK Interchange Network Limited to deliver, via the Vodafone UK network, mobile phone ‘top-ups’ to customers utilising the Cardpoint ATM estate.

The ATM top-up service will make it more convenient for pre-pay mobile phone users to add airtime to their handsets. Customers of participating mobile operators can use selected cash machines connected to the LINK ATM network to 'top-up' their phones by simply inserting their ATM card into the machine and following the screens through the mobile 'top-up' procedure. Payment will be authorised direct from the customer's account.

LINK, which is the central hub for the UK’s only branded ATM network is uniquely placed to enable the ATM channel for prepay ‘top-ups’. Nigel Wright, Operations and Development Director at LINK, said: "In September we signed our first contracts with LINK Network Members to participate in this exciting new service. Cardpoint’s entry into this marketplace with its estate of 400 plus ATMs will soon allow Vodafone UK customers to top up their airtime at their cash machines 24 hours a day. We also expect to be able to announce shortly that more LINK members and other mobile operators have signed up to offer the service.”

Stephen Brewer, Managing Director of Vodafone Sales and Distribution, commented: "ATMs offer Vodafone’s 8 million pay as you talk customers a great new way of topping up and this agreement supports our aim of 50% of top-ups being done electronically by the end of 2003.”

Mark Mills, Chief Executive of Cardpoint plc, said: “This exciting development demonstrates Cardpoint’s determination to provide both consumers and site hosts with added services and benefits. We believe that it will not be long before other prepay mobile phone users will be able to ‘top-up’ their phones quickly and efficiently using our estate of ATMs.”
