Readers Choose NetSwift iGate over 70 Other Security Products; Affirm Emergence of Instant Private Web as a New Category of Security Technologies

Rainbow Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq: RNBO), a leading provider of digital content and transaction security for the Internet and Instant Private Webs (IPWs), today announced that its IPW security appliance, the NetSwift iGate, has been awarded "2002 Security Product of the Year" by the readers of Access Control and Security Systems Magazine. The NetSwift iGate was selected over 70 other security products ranging from data security to physical access products.

Developed for mid-market companies and enterprises, the NetSwift iGate creates an Instant Private Web (IPW) for secure access to Web-enabled data and applications in less than a day for organisations of a few hundred to a few thousand users.

"We couldn't have hoped for a better choice for our first Product of the Year - and the competition was stiff. In expanding our magazine's focus to include the all-important realm of information security, we have found that simplicity can be a rare product feature," said Larry Anderson, editor, Access Control and Security Systems. "The NetSwift iGate offers a simple solution for an Instant Private Web, in effect a drop-in solution to a huge problem for companies dealing with remote employees and business partners through Web-enabled networks and applications. The NetSwift iGate and other entries in our Product of the Year contest are clear evidence of a high level of innovation that we are sure will serve the industry well for years to come."

"We are thrilled that the readers of Access Control & Security Systems Magazine chose the NetSwift iGate as their security product of the year," said David M. Lynch, vice president of marketing, Rainbow eSecurity. "This award is affirmation of the need for security products to not only offer high security but also simplicity. The NetSwift iGate addresses a critical need that many organisations have today - allowing truly secure access to Web enabled applications in a mode that is non-intrusive for end users, while being easy to deploy and support for IS organisations."

Creating an Instant Private Web

The NetSwift iGate's end-user authentication and SSL acceleration secures Web access from the client's browser to a single Web server or to multiple backend servers. And unlike more traditional Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions, the NetSwift iGate Web security appliance requires no reconfiguration of network servers, Internet/Intranet firewalls or Web-enabled applications. It simply drops in between the server and firewall. End users can easily configure their USB authentication keys from drivers downloaded off the corporate Intranet and can be up and running in a matter of seconds. Installations of as many as 1,000 users can be configured and operational in a single day, providing fine-grained access control to any Web-enabled application. The NetSwift iGate IPW solution effectively eliminates the inherent weakness in user-name/password security that typically takes up the majority of any organisation's help desk services.

Rainbow's award-winning NetSwift acceleration and security appliance provides complete encryption of all network traffic between itself and the browser using industry-standard SSL security built into the browser. While this completely secures the Web site content, it also eliminates many of the costs associated with the installation and management VPN client software. The central management and SSL acceleration of NetSwift iGate reduces the cost and complexity of manually installing SSL on Web servers and significantly lowers the total cost of ownership by eliminating the need to purchase SSL certificates for each physical Web server.
