Solectron to Provide Manufacturing Services for IPWireless, Modems, PC Cards and Network Equipment

Malmesbury, Wiltshire - Jan. 7, 2003 - IPWireless, Inc., enabling mobile broadband globally, today announced a manufacturing partnership with Solectron Corporation, a leading provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain management services. Under the agreement, Solectron will provide new product introduction (NPI), printed circuit board assembly, complete product assembly, and fulfillment services at its facility in Dunfermline, Scotland, for the IPWireless desktop modem, the IPWireless PCMCIA broadband modem cards for laptops and personal data assistants (PDAs), and network base stations (3GPP NodeB). Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With products already deployed on three continents and in late-stage trials with several of the top mobile operators in the world, IPWireless has multiple business deals in the pipeline for 2003. By partnering with Solectron, IPWireless is well positioned to meet large-volume demand and bring products to market faster for operators and subscribers interested in adopting the IPWireless solution.

"Our partnership with Solectron shows that we are serious about delivering on our promise to make mobile broadband a reality," said Chris Gilbert, CEO, IPWireless. "Now that global operators are realising the power of the IPWireless solution, one of our largest challenges is to scale to meet high-volume orders. With Solectron's manufacturing strength supporting us, we can rapidly scale to make our standards-based, plug-and-play mobile broadband technology available everywhere."

"We are very pleased to have been chosen as IPWireless sole manufacturer for its wireless products," said David Powell, Solectron vice president of sales and marketing for Europe. "IPWireless has a unique product in a potentially fast growing market. By taking advantage of our wide range of services and advanced technologies, they will be able to quickly expand in new and existing markets around the world."

Next-Generation Wireless Network Enables Mobile Computing Everywhere

The IPWireless total network solution is the first on the market that complies with the internationally recognized UMTS TD-CDMA (TDD) standard. Available today for operation in the 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz licensed bands (the UMTS unpaired allocations and the MMDS/MDS bands), the IPWireless product line includes a complete network infrastructure solution, pocket-sized wireless desktop modems, and PC cards (PCMCIA) for laptops and personal data assistants (PDAs). The IPWireless broadband modem and card allow residential and business customers instantaneous, 'plug-and-play' Internet access. Additionally, the IPWireless network solution gives users the complete portability, mobility and freedom of a wireless Internet connection at higher speeds than alternative broadband offerings.
