Expanded Firewall Capabilities and Enhanced VPN Bring New Levels of Price-Performance to Businesses of All Sizes

London, UK – January 21, 2003 – SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leader in comprehensive Internet security solutions, today announced the SonicWALL PRO 230 and PRO 330 Internet security appliances, setting a new precedent for price/performance leadership across the Internet security market. The PRO 230 and PRO 330 incorporate expanded firewall capabilities and new, more flexible Virtual Private Network (VPN) features, bringing secure, reliable and highly available connectivity to small and large businesses alike.

Today’s business networks have expanded to accommodate branch offices, remote workers and business travelers, increasing the need for remote network access. As remote connectivity increases, so too does the threat to distributed networks from malicious activities. SonicWALL’s new PRO products, when combined with other SonicWALL remote access devices, form the basis for a complete, secure remote access solution.

“As the Remote Office/Branch Office market becomes increasingly sophisticated about network security, purchase considerations focus on features that deliver a high return on investment like VPN connectivity,” said Charles Kolodgy, IDC program manager, Network Security. “Previously available in more complex configurations for larger enterprises, SonicWALL’s VPN enhancements with the PRO 230 and PRO 330 products bring measurable ROI results to this ROBO market.”

New VPN Functionality

The PRO 230 and PRO 330 both incorporate powerful and reliable ASIC-based IPSec VPN acceleration and come bundled with VPN software clients that enable immediate, secure access to corporate network resources. SonicWALL’s Single-Arm Mode VPN feature provides the flexibility to place a PRO 230 or PRO 330 into any existing network configuration as a VPN device, in parallel with an existing firewall. The PRO 230 and PRO 330 also feature support for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), for increased network security.

Enhanced Firewall Features

All-in-one security appliances, the PRO 230 and PRO 330 also now have flexible interfaces for DMZ or a second LAN, creating multiple protected zones of trust and increasing security for internal networks or public servers while reducing costs, administration, and management. The PRO 330 also features dual power supplies, delivering mission-critical reliability and continuous uptime for complete protection and availability.

“As our small and medium-sized business customers grow increasingly savvy about network security, they look for integrated firewall and VPN solutions that are full-featured enough to offer headroom for their growing network needs,” said Douglas Brockett, SonicWALL vice president of worldwide marketing. “The PRO 230 and PRO 330 deliver complete, integrated security and connectivity for these customers at an attractive price point and with industry-leading price/performance.”

Award-Winning Management and Reporting Capabilities

Like other SonicWALL integrated Internet security appliances, the PRO 230 and PRO 330 can easily be managed through a Web interface or from a central location with SonicWALL’s award-winning Global Management System (GMS). The PRO 330 features SonicWALL ViewPoint reporting software for real-time reporting and logging capabilities from a centralized, Web-enabled console.

SonicWALL Firmware 6.4
Combined with the announcement of the new PRO 230 and PRO 330, SonicWALL has also introduced Firmware 6.4, bringing increased firewall and VPN functionality to the SonicWALL product line. This new firmware version, which will be automatically distributed to all current support customers through SonicWALL’s unique Auto Update mechanism, now includes a number of new features:

• RIPv2 Advertising - Dynamically advertises updated VPN and static routing information, reducing the risk of misroutes and ensuring reliable connectivity to critical resources
• PPTP Client – Allows Wide Area Network (WAN) protocol support for Microsoft Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), and connection to a PPTP-based VPN
• Configurable Dead Peer Detection (DPD) – Increases uptime, access, and user productivity by automatically sensing and re-establishing failed VPN connections
• FQDN Support – Provides flexible and reliable VPN connections, by permitting VPN gateway address to be defined by hostname in addition to an IP address

Pricing and Availability
The SonicWALL PRO 230 is available now for around £1,555 and the PRO 330 is available now for around £2,179 through SonicWALL distribution channels. SonicWALL Firmware 6.4 is immediately available from for existing SonicWALL customers with current support contracts. For more information, visit
