Steria, a leading European IT services global operator, is implementing a real-time technical resources management solution for Cantons new airport. The aim of this solution, which is already used by Paris Charles De Gaulle and Orly airports as well Romes Fiumicino airport, is to improve the quality of service offered to passengers and airline companies.

Canton international airport is set to open at the beginning of 2004. In order to match Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing infrastructures, the airport, which has the capacity to handle 25 million passengers and a million tonnes of freight per year, will be one of the main gateways to Southern China.

The new airports technical resources optimisation system developed by Steria will enable the airports operational staff to plan and manage the availability of all of the airports technical resources, such as aircraft parking areas, check-in desks, luggage conveyor belts, boarding gates, passenger walkways, etc. It will also improve the quality of service for passengers and airlines stopping in Canton.

Steria integrated the SAIGA solution, developed by ADP (Paris Airports), and then set up a marketing and rollout agreement with ADP for this project. This solution has been in use for nearly five years in Paris Charles De Gaulle and Orly airports. It is capable of handling, in real time, the complex running of major international airports, which are often unequipped in this field.

Apart from managing the allocation of technical resources in response to the needs of airlines, this solution can also devise an emergency solution in less than three minutes, in the event of an unexpected incident. As a result, in 2000, Rome airport authorities chose Steria to implement this solution for Fiumicino airport.

This new project for Cantons international airport, which benefits from flexible and low cost technology, is being carried out at the Paris and Canton sites. It draws upon Sterias core business and integration know-how as well as the functional expertise of ADP consultants.This project is part of the global implementation of operational IT systems contracted to Unisys China.

Through this contract, Steria will broaden its customer base in Asia, where its Singapore office already holds a strategic position in the land transport sector with its maintenance management solution for the high-speed Taipei-Kaohsiung train, the Singapore underground system and traffic supervision in Singapore.

The Steria groups European references in air transport include airport solutions, information and management systems (Bristol airport), traffic supervision, carpark management systems (Geneva airport) and taxi-line management systems (Paris airports).

In addition, Steria has vast experience on a European scale in the field of air traffic control for Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH in Germany, CENA (Air traffic control research centre) in France and Eurocontrol in Belgium.
