Fibrenetix, one of the largest independent manufacturers of RAID solutions
in the UK, has announced the launch of a series of solutions based on the
powerful new Serial ATA interface.

Jes Nagel, Managing Director of Fibrenetix, said “The adoption of the new
Serial ATA interface will obliterate the traditional price gap between IDE
on one side and SCSI /Fibre Channel on the other. In fact, it will
completely change the role of SCSI – with important consequences for the
enterprise market – and, as prices fall, Cost per Terabyte will move to
centre-stage position.

“The new AT-6000 S-ATA system leads the way for the next generation of RAID
systems. The design has created a platform which can and will evolve into
Fibre/Fibre products, plus high performance, high availability products for
mid-range and high-end Enterprises.”

Based around a new design 3U-high, quality enclosure, the AT-6000 provides a
staggering storage capacity of 5TB per enclosure (using 320GB drives). The
AT-6000 supports 16x hot-swap drives via an intelligent backplane and has
been designed to work with the new high-performance Serial ATA drives being
introduced by IBM and Seagate.

The RAID controller features Ultra SCSI 320 or 2Gbit Fibre Channel to the
Host. The standard AT-6000 features a ‘warm-plug’ RAID controller and
Fibrenetix will announce Dual Active/Active RAID Controller support in early

Key features of the new design include dual Hot Swap 450W PSUs, high-speed
hot-swap fans, IP based monitoring and management capabilities, in a
distinctive high quality enclosure design. The hot-swap PSU’s and fan’s
offer the highest possible MTBF and attention to drive vibration and cooling
have been major design considerations.

“By utilising the new S-ATA drive technology, Fibrenetix secures its
position as market leader for reliable cost effective storage and expects to
create new opportunities in the Enterprise market.” said Jes Nagel.

“Although SME is a growing marketplace today, when the world economy
improves large enterprises will represent considerably more growth for
Serial ATA technology. The new AT-6000 range will meet the challenges of an
ever-changing market place.”
