30 January 2003 - Today sees the launch of RentStore(tm), a new arm of the Intelco Group plc., set up to supply organisations with IT storage solutions on rental. And to mark the launch of RentStore, the company is offering 6 months free rental on all IT storage products to those qualifying organisations who register on its website before March 31 2003.

Through RentStore, Intelco is supplementing its traditional way of doing business by adding a range of storage specific services to its rental offering. These include storage audits, health checks and assessment consultancy, strategic resource planning to take into account legacy storage, growth, security, resilience and management needs. RentStore will then facilitate plans by supplying all the software and hardware architecture required, plus the integration, installation and after sales support, all costed into a quarterly rental charge.

Intelco’s move into the network storage marketplace with RentStore is because storage is becoming the increasingly most vital IT resource. On average, corporate storage requirements are doubling every year and therefore storage system solutions need to be structured for ease of growth, yet be flexible to cope with changing requirements. This is fertile ground for rental, where one of the main reasons to rent is to enable change without continual high cost of redundant hardware and software.
RentStore will offer complete storage solutions, such as Storage Areas Networks, and standalone products such as tape libraries, plug-in Network Attached Storage or network management software. However, it is primarily an IT rental company. For this reason, it is partnering with Ideal Enterprise Solutions’ professional services arm; Infrastructure Design Practice (IDP), who offer independent advice to corporate customers on the planning, assessment and development of storage strategies, together with installation and integration services. IDP has experience and expertise built up over some 15 years and is perhaps Europe’s leading independent authority on all aspects relating to storage.

Geoff Benjamin, General Manager of RentStore comments: “In any one organisation, a storage infrastructure may have component parts from several suppliers, each one constantly introducing improvements and additions to their offerings. Purchase means having to find the capital to take advantage of such improvements, writing off any old product in the process. Rental means that old component products are replaced by new ones, simply, quickly and with no hassle”.

“On average, corporate storage requirements are doubling every year, of which email can make up as much as 40%,” claims Benjamin. “Without a comprehensive storage plan and ongoing ‘health checks’, information storage can get completely out of hand, with duplicate files and redundant data causing unacceptably slow network access for users.

We are specialists in designing tailor-made rental solutions for our customers. Our partnership with IDP means that we combine our IT rental expertise with the best storage support and expertise available,” he adds.

Solutions incorporating storage hardware and software products from suppliers such as Computer Associates, Plasmon, Storage Technology, Blue Arc, ADIC and Legato will be available through RentStore.

Ian Lockhart, Infrastructure Design Manager, Ideal Enterprise Solutions, comments: “No storage solution stands still. Whether Storage Area Network or Network Attached Storage, managing change is really the main issue. It means change in every layer of information storage, from high usage data down to archived material. Storage architecture is like a big jigsaw, where every piece needs to fit to give the right result. But unlike a jigsaw, the picture is always changing and thus the pieces need to change too. Rental gives flexibility to make these changes and thus keep solutions at optimum performance”.

There are two other companies within the Intelco Group plc. Intelco Limited, a specialist company dedicated to the design and management of supplier rental programmes, and RentalDirect, a web based company that acts as a shop window for Intelco’s supplier clients with a wide variety of software and hardware solutions.

The Intelco Group was formed in 1987 and today has a wide end user customer base, with many in the public sector and Government, where capital budgets don’t match the need for IT development, particularly in the area of eGovernment. Intelco is at : Intelco House, Whittle Parkway, Burnham, Slough SL1 6DQ
