Recent comments in the press regarding the problems associated with the launch of the new 802.11g cards are not a cause for concern for Elan, who supply a wide range of WLAN adapters to OEMs and major, world-wide computer manufacturers . Elan is happily reassuring users who fear that they may be left with obsolete equipment, that the Elan adapters have been designed to be compatible with whatever 802.11g standard emerges after the shouting and the tears are over. Each Elan adapter is designed to support the existing 802.11 a and b standards as well as the g and the h.

Julian Barnard, Managing Director of Elan is unperturbed by the bad press the g standard is receiving at the moment. “Teething troubles are always a problem at launch time, but we believe there is a strong future for the 802.11g not least because it is backward compatible with b. But even if we are proved wrong, our universal adapters are able to handle all the standards, so our customers are already future-proofed with regard to 802.11”

Their top selling models for WLAN use, the P111 single slot and P222 twin slot units, are part of a wide range of adapters that have been successfully tested with all the major WLAN cards on the market today, and designed to be compatible with the cards of tomorrow. Elan adapters have been selected as the adapter of choice by many OEMs because of their proven reliability record. All of the adapters support a wide range of cards, although the smaller CF cards will need their own special converters. Elan are the international patent holders of the software and hardware design of these adapters.
