London, United Kingdom - 25th February, 2003 - Yahoo! Europe today signed an agreement to sponsor the 2003 NetMedia conference and Awards to be held in Barcelona on Thursday 3rd July.

NetMedia, now in it's 9th year, is Europe's premier conference on digital media. The European Online Journalism Awards (EOJA ) was the first awards in the world to honour the work of those who write for the Web as well as the first pan-European digital media awards.

This year's NetMedia conference focuses on one of the key issues in contemporary media: how to make online news services pay for themselves. The sessions bring together seasoned editors and publishers to share their experiences of launching and managing profitable online editions.

The EOJA plays a leading role in helping to encourage and disseminate best practice in online journalism in Europe. It is opened to all European journalists and the judges are drawn from leading European media houses. The Awards are administered by a supervisory board consisting of leading journalism educators from across the continent.

Yonca Dervisoglu, European Marketing Manager, commented:

"As the world's number one Internet destination, Yahoo! provides its customers with the most accurate and up-to-date content from a variety of news sources. We're pleased to support such an established European event that recognises excellence in online journalism."

Milverton Wallace, founder and organiser, said:

"This year's Conference and Awards is a new departure for NetMedia as we are moving into the heart of Europe by staging the events in Catalunya, a region which is spearheading the growth of the information economy on the continent. We're very pleased that Yahoo!, with its strong European presence, is supporting our effort to deepen the European character of the Conference and Awards."
