New Information Services Node Allows Operators to Identify and Deploy the Mobile IP Data Services that Customers Desire
Bytemobile, the company dedicated to improving the mobile data experience and operator efficiency, today announced the launch of its Information Services Node (ISN). The ISN is a flexible billing and reporting system that allows operators to offer new pricing models according to the type of data transmitted and to identify and deploy the mobile IP data services that customers really want.
Leveraging its unique position in the core network, the Bytemobile ISN is able to examine in detail all data packets moving through the network. This allows operators to identify and charge for usage in a way that is meaningful and understandable to subscribers for example, by offering flat-rate pricing, special discounts for sponsored web sites, more flexible pre-paid plans or even premium rates for selected contentleading to higher margins and revenue.
Additionally, the ISN gives mobile operators the ability to track and aggregate rich information at a much greater level of granularity than is available from industry-standard billing systems alone. With this quality of information in hand, operators can meet real customer needs by precisely identifying the mobile IP data services and applications that subscribers are using and are willing to pay for and at what price point. When combined with the Bytemobile Optimization Service Node that has been widely deployed in numerous operator networks, the ISN enables operators not only to enrich the end-user experience with pure, optimized access, but also to develop and extend appropriate, differentiated and profitable service offerings.
Our ISN delivers a major improvement in the mobile operators ability to offer a wider variety of data service plans to meet customer needs and capitalize on new opportunities, said Steve Livingston, Bytemobiles executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. Up until now, operators have had a limited view of data billing, reporting and differentiation. Experience shows that flexible service offers can stimulate adoption and usage by giving the users price plans tailored to meet their needs and budgets. To capture the necessary information for the billing engines requires being at the right location in the network. And integrating the information collection point with billing engines is a complex task. The ISN occupies a unique position in the data network, from which it can see and classify all the data passing through. This removes a huge amount of network complexity.
The Bytemobile ISN has been developed in response to mobile operators need for technology that can work with existing industry-standard billing systems and that increases Average Revenue per User (ARPU).
The Bytemobile ISN is highly resilient and fully adaptive. It can collect an extensive series of raw events and their data and application attributes, such as destination, origination and event date and time. The operator can filter these events by user group, application and time of day. Aggregation allows simple events to be transformed into high-level events such as connections, sessions, client sessions, users, groups and applications with a series of identifiers and a number of reporting options. Correlations can be made between simple and aggregate events, such as sessions to users, users to groups and connections to applications.
The ISN allows operators to store usage information in text files such as CSV records and to customize the format and content of the data files. Flexible logging is achieved through multiple log files and configurable log formats, with various types of log format supported (e.g., RADIUS, TCP, HTTP). Also, the Bytemobile ISN can be configured to generate log files in a particular format using multiple XML log templates.
Bytemobile delivers on the promise of mobile data by enabling the way people really want to work and play in the wireless world.
Bytemobile solutions allow mobile operators, enterprises and other service providers to significantly enrich the user experience of current and future data networks. By making applications more desirable and valuable, Bytemobile customers can maximize returns on existing and future mobile network investments.
Announced customers include Vodafone UK, Nextel Communications, Orange Denmark, Orange UK, Sprint, and T-Mobile UK. The company is headquartered in Mountain View, California and has offices in East Sussex, England and Tokyo, Japan.
