Offers SAN Copy customers IP storage network connectivity for data mobility across wide area distances
Bracknell, UK, 20th March 2003 - Nishan Systems (www.NishanSystems.com), the world's first supplier of native IP storage solutions, today announced that EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in information storage, has qualified Nishan's IPS 3300 and IPS 4300 storage routers for EMC SAN Copy data movement across IP storage networks. EMC SAN Copy provides host- and platform-independent copy and movement capabilities and facilitates data movement between EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix networked storage systems. With EMC SAN Copy and Nishan IP storage routers, customers can deploy flexible data mobility solutions with their existing Fibre Channel-based storage infrastructure and highly scalable local, metropolitan, and wide area IP networks.
"The combination of EMC SAN Copy and Nishan IP storage routers offers our customers flexible options for data distribution," said Chuck Hollis, EMC's Vice President of Markets and Products. "Now, customers can initiate data movement between CLARiiON and Symmetrix storage platforms across any IP network. This provides an accessible and affordable solution for large-scale data movement. "
"Nishan Systems is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective transport for EMC customers," said Bob Russo, chief executive officer, Nishan Systems. "With our standards-based, wire-speed IP storage routers, EMC SAN Copy customers can connect their existing Fibre Channel storage infrastructure over IP and maximize the performance of their software applications across distance."
EMC SAN Copy, a storage-based application, enables businesses to quickly and easily move data over the SAN or WAN, from one storage system to another without the use of critical application server cycles. SAN Copy eliminates the impact to production activities by utilizing SnapView BCVs and Snapshots along with TimeFinder BCVs as sources for the data movement process so applications remain online throughout the entire data movement operation.
In addition to EMC SAN Copy, EMC's market-leading data replication software, SRDF and MirrorView, are qualified to work with the Nishan IP storage routers. This enables the secure, automatic, metro- or wide-area mirroring of mission-critical information between EMC networked storage systems across IP networks. IP connectivity increases the geographic reach of these storage applications while reducing the overall solution cost by making use of proven, ubiquitous IP networks.
Nishan IP storage routers ensure that customers have access to the greatest amount of bandwidth, at the highest speeds and the lowest latencies possible, for their storage traffic. Using a portion of their existing IP network bandwidth or separate IP networks for storage, customers can implement economical high-performance remote storage networks.
