Major construction and related services group Willmott Dixon has slashed its communications overheads by contracting Surrey-based Vodat Solutions to provide quality IP telephony and high speed Internet communications over a Virtual Private Networking (VPN) solution. The fully managed service is replacing a number of ISDN lines and kilostream links to provide Willmott Dixon with much needed additional bandwidth at vastly reduced cost. The service has already been rolled out to 20 Willmott Dixon offices including its Letchworth headquarters, and will connect 50 regional and divisional offices throughout London, the Midlands and the North by the end of 2003.

According to Duncan Murray, Network Support Manager for the Willmott Dixon Group, it was the competitive pricing and flexibility of the service that saw Vodat beat off competition from a number of networking providers. Mr Murray said,

“When we looked at the alternatives Vodat gave excellent bandwidth capacity at the best price with the most flexible service. The solution has slashed the costs of our overall call charges and communications costs, which were proving very excessive - replacing our 64K data links with Vodat’s 512k links alone has given us eight times the speed at half the ongoing cost. Staff are delighted with the reliability and speed delivered by the new service, which has dramatically reduced download times and eliminated a major source of frustration in receiving and sending emails and accessing files from head office.”

He added, “Having worked with Vodat over the past months we have been delighted with their refreshing approach to customer service - they respond quickly and personally to any query or problem we have, and their support staff are highly experienced and knowledgeable. Where we have encountered problems deploying the network, in areas that don’t have ADSL, for example, Vodat has worked hand-in-hand with us to find a solution that gives us the capacity and reliability we need. From our experience I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their service – it offers tremendous value for money.”

Vodat’s Managed Service enables companies to implement a converged voice and data network that is managed remotely on their behalf for a low-cost, fixed monthly fee, removing the need for up-front investment in PBX systems, dedicated equipment or cabling and recabling of offices. As well as dramatically reducing telephony costs – UK calls via Vodat cost just 2.5p per minute – the service is estimated to cut network infrastructure overheads by as much as 60%. Providing companies with unlimited broadband access to email and the Internet companies can also choose to plug in applications such as voicemail, unified messaging, conference calling and video over IP as and when they choose, and add remote workers to the virtual network from just £20 per user.

Companies interested in finding out more about the Vodat Managed Service, including ISPs wishing to resell the service, should contact Alex Waterman at Vodat on 0870 225 9080.
