NEC Computers (UK) introduces the Express5800/320Lb-R fault tolerant server

Pricing Around £25,000 ex VAT

Leading manufacturer NEC Computers (UK) has launched a new addition to its award winning fault tolerant server range. The Express5800/320Lb-R provides continuous availability with redundant CPU and I/O subsystems and, by using industry standard components and operating systems, succeeds in providing fault tolerance at an unprecedented low cost.

“The NEC Express5800/320Lb-R fault tolerant server sets new standards in density, performance and ROI,” commented Paul Evans business development director of NEC Computers (UK). “The 320Lb-R succeeds in providing simplified continuous availability without the expense of a traditional cluster using conventional server systems.”

The 320Lb-R offers application compatibility for standard Windows 2000 and forthcoming Windows 2003 applications and for the first time is available as a compact rack-mount (4U) system.

The Dual Modular Redundant (DMR) design of the 320Lb-R allows easy replacement of all essential server subsystems without shutting down the system. If a hardware failure occurs the subsystem modules, referred to as Customer Replacement Units, can be simply configured, diagnosed and hot-swapped without the assistance of specialised support personnel. Indicator lights provide alerts on the status of each subsystem and confirm successful replacement of hardware components.

With dual Intel Xeon processors and an internal storage capacity of 218GB the 320Lb-R is suitable for the most active of departmental or workgroup environments and offers plenty of room for future growth. In addition to the 320Lb-R’s storage capacity, this new server provides support of external storage solutions, three free PCI slots and network connectivity with embedded 10/100 Mbps and Gigabit Ethernet.
