* Fully automated reference data interface to InterconnecT billing system improves operational efficiency and reduces data management costs

London, 10 April 2003: Intec Telecom Systems, a global leader in Operations Support Systems (OSS) for telecoms companies, has launched InterconnecT Inter-linK™, a module which integrates Intec’s market-leading InterconnecT™ billing system with other applications. Inter-linK is an automated interface which enables call rating information created in another application, such as a capacity trading system, to be automatically propagated into the InterconnecT billing database. Inter-linK can ease the complex process of changing tariff rates with intercarrier partners, simplifying business practices such as advanced buying of interconnect minutes and real-time rate bidding and capacity trading. Inter-linK, which has been created in response to customer demand, can save substantial time and effort by making many daily reference data maintenance operations faster and more accurate. InterconnecT Inter-linK is available immediately.

Interconnect billing is an important line of business for generating operator revenue – as much as 50% of telco revenue or costs can be interconnect-related. As the telecoms market continues to become more competitive and complex, particularly with the arrival of companies offering content and IP-based communications, operators are involved with multiple, complex interconnect & wholesale billing partnerships. Rating data must be constantly updated to keep up with the increase in agreements and the pace of change in the business. What used to be typically a monthly procedure is now often a daily task for operators.

“There is a growing need to increase the speed at which interconnect agreements are changed and entered into the system,” explains Adrian Currall, Intec’s Settlement Products Manager. “Inter-linK helps operators to achieve faster and more efficient reference data management by making it possible to automate the process of updating data from a network application to the InterconnecT platform.”

Manual data provisioning is a time-consuming and error prone process which requires skilled staff. The amount of new data involved with the increase of interconnect and wholesale billing partnerships makes it imperative for operators to invest in an interface which automates the upgrade of reference data entered from one network application into the InterconnecT billing system. Inter-linK provides the technology to support this business requirement, operating as a uni-directional, standalone application which interfaces to a network application from any manufacturer and with Intec’s InterconnecT billing system. Information, including reference data on rates, can be exchanged quickly and efficiently, as and when required.

Inter-linK can create, modify and terminate data received, supporting mass changes when necessary. It can be linked to more than one interconnect billing system, making it possible to update new centrally defined rates from one network application into multiple InterconnecT installations simultaneously. Inter-linK can handle batches of updates at the same time, where multiple calls to Inter-linK can be segregated and processed separately. Related updates can also be bundled into transaction groups, offering intelligent sorting of interdependent transactions to achieve success while controlling the unit of work.

Inter-linK produces a plain language message log when reference changes are made into the network application. The data is transferred directly to the InterconnecT system and then the message log is extracted to text files for review. A standard on-line system log is used to check basic success of the update. Once the review process is finalised the original message log is purged. Inter-linK uses on-line security to protect important data, allowing only permitted functionality to be used by the system. A detailed analysis report can be produced for every data transaction, providing an audit trail for operators to consult when required.

“Intec is proud to launch its latest InterconnecT module, Inter-linK, which continues to expand our market and technical leadership,” says Kevin Adams, the company’s CEO. “Inter-linK can simplify daily reference data maintenance operations for all telecoms companies. When new rates are entered into a network application they are piped straight into interconnect billing systems through the Inter-linK interface, maximising operational efficiency and accounting accuracy. Inter-link is easy to install and requires no human intervention to operate which helps to reduce resource requirements while freeing up time for communications providers to focus on other aspects of their businesses.”
