SurfControl provides watertight solution for Waterside Press

SurfControl E-mail Filter blocks over 96% of Waterside's nuisance spam

CONGLETON. (April 10th, 2003) - SurfControl, the world's number one Web and
e-mail filtering company, today announced that Waterside Press (Hatfield)
Ltd has selected SurfControl E-mail Filter to shield its users primarily
from spam and to protect the company against other unwanted content such as
viruses and pornographic, racist or sexist material.

Prior to deploying SurfControl E-mail Filter, Waterside Press had tackled
the problem of spam by adding different rules to each users' e-mail client.
Not only was this time consuming, but it was also relatively ineffective
against the continual tide of unsolicited e-mail clogging the company's

Andy Banks, IT Manager at Waterside Press, explains:

"Since installing SurfControl we have seen a number of benefits. Out of the
40,000 or so spam e-mails the company has received since December around 96%
of them have been rejected, an indication of the magnitude of the problem we
faced before installing SurfControl. Aside from this, we've been
particularly impressed by how simple the product is to install and
administer, and also the level of support we've received from SurfControl."

In addition to dramatically cutting the number of spam e-mails entering the
company, SurfControl E-mail Filter allows Waterside Press to administer the product
via a web front end. SurfControl E-mail Filter also enables Waterside Press
to easily customise filtering rules and generate comprehensive reports in
order to give a clear view of e-mail traffic entering and leaving the
company. This also shows how the network resources are being utilised and
where bottlenecks may be occurring.

Steve Purdham, CEO of SurfControl, comments:

"Many companies like Waterside Press do not realise just how significant an
impact nuisance e-mail has on their networks until they implement a solution
to counter it. This, coupled with the potential for security breaches and
legal issues arising from unsolicited content makes filtering software an
attractive proposition for an increasing number of businesses."
