London, UK – April 14, 2003 – SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leading provider of comprehensive Internet security solutions, today announced the SOHO TZW, the industry’s first ICSA-certified firewall appliance which integrates secure wireless and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) technologies in a complete, easy-to-use solution. The SOHO TZW bridges the IT administrator’s need for network security and end user demands for convenient, wireless connectivity.

According to Infonetics Research’s “User Plans for Security Products and Services 2002,” 55% of companies surveyed plan to have implemented a wireless LAN by 2004. Small businesses (fewer than 100 users) will experience the fastest adoption, with a 94% forecasted growth rate.

Unfortunately, many of these wireless LANs (WLANs) are deployed in ways that do not meet modern security standards, either because they are unauthorized wireless access points that open back doors to corporate networks, or are deployed using Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), a flawed security protocol that can be hacked with commonly available script tools.

The SonicWALL SOHO TZW enables administrators to enforce powerful IPSec authentication and encryption between the LAN and the wireless LAN (WLAN), creating a Trusted Zone for Wireless (TZW). The solution includes the SonicWALL Global VPN client that establishes a wireless connection from the mobile user to the appliance and automatically downloads security policy settings to enforce bulletproof wireless security.

“Security is one of the first requirements any organization should resolve before deploying innovative wireless networking solutions,” stated Eric Ogren, senior analyst at the Yankee Group. “SonicWALL’s integrated firewall, VPN and connectivity features in an easy to use appliance are spot-on with market needs. Businesses can confidently deploy wireless LANs without sacrificing security.”

The SOHO TZW provides easy to use setup wizards for a variety of deployment scenarios. The appliance can be deployed as a combination firewall, VPN and gateway to provide both LAN and WLAN trusted zones. Additionally, Wireless Guest Services can be used to provide a guest zone for Internet connectivity for lobby, conference room, and hot spot access, while reserving corporate LAN access for authenticated users only. The SOHO TZW can also be deployed as a secure departmental access point, allowing workers to access an existing corporate LAN securely.

“The SOHO TZW enables businesses of all sizes to implement wireless in their networks safely,” said Douglas Brockett, SonicWALL vice president of worldwide marketing. “The SOHO TZW not only brings superior performance for the cost, but its unique combination of features and its new management interface also makes it simple for network administrators to deploy secure wireless networks.”

SonicWALL SOHO TZW features include:

• Enforcement of IPSec 3DES Encryption on the Wireless LAN – Overcomes weaknesses in WEP security by providing bulletproof encryption and authentication.

• Wireless Guest Services – Gives administrators the ability to grant visiting users “Guest” access services, providing time-based and account-based access to the Internet while isolating them from the protected LAN.

• Powerful Management - Provides an advanced Web interface for secure remote or local management as well as support for SonicWALL’s award-winning Global Management System for management of distributed networks.

• Tunnel-All Mode - Allows the SOHO TZW to optionally force all authenticated users to transmit in infrastructure mode to prevent card-to-card communications, helping to eliminate additional sources of security vulnerabilities.

• Anti-Virus and Content Filtering Enforcement – Allows the WLAN and LAN ports to be configured to enforce anti-virus and content filtering, improving network security and productivity.

Pricing and Availability

The SonicWALL SOHO TZW combines firewall and VPN technologies with an integrated 802.11b access point, providing both wired and wireless security. It is available in a base configuration supporting up to 25 users, with upgrades to 50 or unlimited users.

The SonicWALL SOHO TZW is available this week for £690 through SonicWALL distribution channels.
