HYPERION SETS NEW SCALABILITY STANDARD WITH ITS FIRST BUSINESS PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT APPLICATION BENCHMARK

... Hyperion Software Scales to Support Collaborative Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting Across the Extended Enterprise...

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 16, 2003 – Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL), the global leader in Business Performance Management software, today announced that Hyperion Planning has set a new standard for planning application scalability, exceeding well over 1,000 users, while falling well under industry standard response times. The rigorous performance testing was conducted in Santa Clara at the Intel®’s performance testing laboratory Solution Center, and represents Hyperion’s first Business Performance Management application performance benchmark.

“Hyperion Planning is setting the industry standard for scalability,” said Rich Clayton, Hyperion vice president for strategic marketing. “Customers who need collaboration and alignment across the extended enterprise win as a result. Hyperion Planning is the only product of its kind, proven to meet this customer requirement in a neutral, third party test.” Clayton goes on to state, “With the sophistication of today’s Business Performance Management solutions, stand-alone OLAP benchmarks are no longer relevant.”

There is a growing demand for financial and operational accountability across the enterprise –companies are increasingly relying on continuous forecasting and enterprise-wide collaboration to ensure they meet these requirements. Hyperion Planning, a centralised, Web-based planning, budgeting and forecasting solution, drives collaborative, integrated, event-based planning processes throughout the enterprise for a wide range of financial and operational needs. As an integral part of the Hyperion Business Performance Management Suite, Hyperion Planning enables companies to monitor business plans and forecasts translating strategic objectives into operational goals and targets.

The test sizing and scalability methodology created by Intel Solution Services for Hyperion Planning combined simulated user behavior running against a total of nine hardware and software configurations that included Intel® Xeon™ processor-based platforms and BEA’s WebLogic* Server versions 6.1 and 7.0. The tests proved that Hyperion Planning could support 1,300 concurrent users with no degradation of performance or response times.

“Intel Solution Services, working with Hyperion, found that the Planning application performed extremely well under tremendous load, and delivered superior industry standard user response times,” said Rhett Livengood, Director WW Business Development, Intel Solution Services. “Utilising the resources from Intel® Solution Centers, Intel Solution Services consultants and Hyperion were able to demonstrate the application’s ability to scale with the growing enterprise.”
