Tough new patient confidentiality regulations in the US are being met with Web application security technology from KaVaDo, the company with a fast-growing presence in the UK and with its European headquarters in London.

KaVaDo announced today that its award-winning technology is being used by health care providers to address security requirements detailed in the recently completed Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA is designed in part to assure the ?confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive health care information.? By protecting IT resources at the Web application layer, KaVaDo directly addresses a number of key mandates with which health care organisations must comply.

"As the healthcare market invests in becoming HIPAA compliant prior to industry deadlines, IT decisions made today are critical to supporting the growing enterprise of tomorrow," said Peter Lindstrom, research director at Spire Security, LLC. "Security at the data and application levels is a major concern not only to advance business initiatives but preserve and protect patient privacy."

KaVaDo streamlines protection of applications across a network against security vulnerabilities. Specifically, the HIPAA Security Rule states that entities must deploy a defence in depth security approach to 'prevent, detect, contain and correct security violations' and avert all reasonably anticipated threats to sensitive information. KaVaDo?s proven Web application firewall, InterDo, accomplishes this by preventing both known and unknown online attacks that lead to data theft, sabotage and fraud.

ScanDo, KaVaDos Web application scanner, is also helping organisations meet strict HIPAA guidelines, including the call to conduct 'an accurate and thorough assessment of the potential risk and vulnerabilities to the confidentiality, integrity and availability of electronic protected health information.' By identifying weaknesses and targets for attack, ScanDo allows users to assess the security of their entire Web application environment and apply any necessary resources to correct potential problems.

Stenstrom Scientific provides secure network solutions to organizations in the health care industry and is a prominent partner for KaVaDo in helping customers meet HIPAA requirements. "The HIPAA standards specific to information technology include significant penalties to ensure health care organizations fully protect their sensitive patient data," said Greg Stenstrom, CEO of Stenstrom Scientific Inc. "Unfortunately, these standards do not detail specifically how the requirements must be met, and many of the organisations we service are still evaluating a number of possible solutions."

He continued, "KaVaDo provides solutions that directly address HIPAA with comprehensive protection and assessment products that secure a broad spectrum of application layer vulnerabilities. We recommend these complementary solutions to our clients that are faced with the mandates of protecting sensitive health-related information."

"As privacy and security issues become more prevalent, government regulations and internal controls are tightening down on the way information and IT resources are being protected. Attacks at the Web application layer pose a severe threat to any Web-enabled business, and health care organisations are especially at risk," said Tal Gilat, CEO and co-founder of KaVaDo. "It is important that these organisations fully understand the consequences of these potential attacks ? not just the loss of productivity, resources and credibility, but also strict fines and even possible incarceration for violation of federal law. KaVaDo is pleased to help health care professionals effectively prevent these attacks and avoid the negative results that ultimately ensue."

KaVaDo provides next-generation Web application protection solutions and vulnerability assessment products for the corporate market using its patent-pending Protected Path? technology. These solutions account for the various types of threats against Web applications and allow IT management to apply only the necessary protection against anticipated threats, known and unknown. KaVaDo offers a unique, effective approach to Web application protection with minimum strain on system resources, easy installation and management, and flexibility to handle a variety of applications under different environments.

The company is based in New York with international research and development, sales and support facilities. KaVaDo has secured funding from Banc of America Equity Partners, Neurone Ventures and 3i. More information on the company can be found at
