Hyperion Reaches Critical Mass with Thousands of Customers Using
Management Dashboards for Intuitive, Visual Data Analysis


LAS VEGAS—HYPERION SOLUTIONS 2003 CONFERENCE—May 5, 2003—Today at its annual Solutions user conference, Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL), the global leader in Business Performance Management software, announced that thousands of its customers have adopted Hyperion Essbase XTD and Hyperion Analyzer to build management dashboards that will help them drive alignment and accountability across their organizations. With the increased emphasis on performance accountability and regulatory compliance issues, organizations are relying on real-time, intuitive management dashboards to help everyone—from the management team to individual employees—keep a finger on the pulse of their financial and operational performance.

A core component of the Hyperion Business Performance Management solution, Hyperion Essbase XTD business intelligence platform and Hyperion Analyzer serve as the foundation for management dashboards. Hyperion Analyzer offers a simple, yet powerful tool for creating comprehensive, Web-based, graphical management dashboards that track key performance indicators and other important metrics such as sales analysis by geography, product profitability and inventory management and control data.

Hyperion also offers integrated scorecarding and dashboarding functionality, which allows users to drill-down into dashboard information to view scorecard data, including variances, underlying trends and actionable initiatives with specific owners. For example, if a particular business unit is responsible for ensuring operating expenses are at 10 percent, but operating expenses come in at 25 percent, individuals can drill down into the data to gain additional insight and create actionable goals that align the business unit and drive towards the 10 percent target.

Real-Time Information Used to Monitor Work Schedules and Reduce Labor Costs
By putting together better analytical reports with Hyperion software, Cashman Equipment is monitoring costs more closely. It is developing key performance indicators, isolating them into specific time units and delivering them to the people responsible for those reports. For example, the company is keeping a much closer track on inventory, and the finance department has developed into more of a strategic business partner – even with reduced headcount. Half as many people are producing information, and supervisors are directed to retrieve the information themselves.

Information generated by Hyperion Essbase has helped the company to schedule work and monitor progress on repair jobs, decreasing overtime, one of its KPIs. Hyperion Essbase is also used to monitor employees by job function. It is an efficient evaluation tool for Cashman Equipment’s service supervisors. That way, an apprentice is performing a routine oil change rather than a certified senior technician, who is at the top of the wage earning scale.
