Tumbling Hardware Prices Boost Demand for Version One Document Imaging Solutions
With hardware prices falling by over 50 per cent in the last year, according to Meta Group and with Gartner predicting that hardware prices will continue to drop for at least the next two generations of products and possibly longer, it is perhaps no surprise that document management and imaging solutions supplier, Version One, has reported record sales of its document imaging software.
Increasingly more organisations are now realising the benefits of ‘paperless office’ technology and document archiving, management and retrieval. Research from a Storage Networking Industry Association Europe (SNIA-E) survey shows strong growth in hardware storage requirements, with 30% of respondents claiming storage had grown by 100% or more in the previous 12 months and a staggering 9% seeing growth of over 200%. The prediction is that this growth is set to continue at roughly the same rate over the coming year.
“The last two years have seen our turnover almost double, and our order book has never been so full”, commented Version One director, Tony Bray. “We’ve seen a dramatic increase in sales of our document imaging systems. Indeed, March 2003 was the best-ever sales month in the company’s history! It’s long been accepted that paperless office systems are essential for the corporate and public sectors but, with reducing cost of ownership, these systems are fast becoming a “must-have” for SMEs too. DbArchive is seamlessly integrated into all the major accounting and ERP systems, and with a typical return-on-investment of just 6 months, it enables our clients to increase productivity and make significant cost savings.“
Michelle Jeffrey, Systems Manager for the Accounting Centre of Britain’s fourth largest newspaper publisher, Johnston Press plc, commented, “Increasingly cheaper storage allows us to significantly expand the types and amounts of documents held on our Version One document management system, without huge hardware investment.”
Key sectors where Version One is seeing particularly strong take-up of document management and imaging systems are the public sector, construction, manufacturing and distribution.
“As prices of scanning and storage hardware have fallen substantially over the last couple of years, it has brought these solutions within the budget of even the smallest private organization. Coupled with the very swift ROI, this has significantly increased demand for document image processing systems, and we anticipate that this demand will continue to increase.”
