Despite the current down-turn in the technology industry, Metro Ethernet has emerged as one of the brightest spots in the Networking and Telecoms sectors, according to industry analysts Gartner Group. The market for Metro Ethernet services will exceed $14 Billion by 2005 and Infonetics Research predict the market for Metro Ethernet equipment will reach $4 Billion during the same period. These findings and more will be discussed in the free ¡¥Hub¡¦ seminar theatre at Networks for Business 2003 on Tuesday 24 June, the Birmingham NEC, Birmingham, UK.

From these studies, it has been found that the main driver for this rapid growth is the Enterprises¡¦ desire for access to cost-effective plentiful bandwidth. Service Providers are meeting this need by introducing new generation Metro Ethernet services. Also, Metro Ethernet along with wireless technology deployments are two areas where Europe and Asia look set to lead the USA through to at least 2006.

Nan Chen, President of the Metro Ethernet Forum explains, ¡§It is particularly critical in these times for businesses to show a rapid return-on-investment (ROI), and new Metro Ethernet deployments are proving they can deliver this. Service Providers benefit by being able to quickly bring on-line new profitable revenue streams; Enterprises are able to easily implement new initiatives and applications that will bring about immediate cost savings within their organisations.¡¨

The seminar sessions will elaborate on these findings through the following programme:

12:35-12:55 Analysts View - Hot Technologies
Ian Keene, VP & Chief Analyst with Gartner Group highlights some of hottest sectors in the industry - from wireless and security to Metro Ethernet - and explains why corporate buyers should be paying attention to these latest developments.

What particular services, solutions and applications should Enterprises consider as first stage deployments to ensure immediate return on investment?

What areas should Enterprises consider for next stage deployments and what ROI could they realistically expect?

Are European carriers/SP's sufficiently advanced with their roll-outs of Metro Ethernet to adequately support major Enterprises with current requirements?

What's holding carriers/SP's back with new deployments?

Do the equipment vendors now have all the necessary technology actually available and is it suitably proven/reliable?

What are the barriers to large-scale deployment of Metro Ethernet in Europe?

Jane Murphy, Portfolio Director of Networks for Business commented, "We are delighted to be able to welcome Nan Chen, President of the Metro Ethernet Forum as one of our keynote speakers, and to be able to provide professionals with an opportunity to hear experts discuss one the most talked about and hottest sectors in the industry right now.
