As the biggest reality TV event of the year returns for a fourth consecutive year, Big Brother has turned into another online ratings winner for Channel 4, reports Hitwise.

With almost 8 million viewers watching the start of Big Brother 4, making it the highest ever TV ratings launch for the reality show, the official Big Brother site became the 34th most visited website in the UK on Saturday. It was also the most visited Television website, receiving 13% of all traffic to the category.

The success of Big Brother contributed to a significant rise in traffic to the Television category, which witnessed a 24% increase in the last week.

19.5% of traffic to the Big Brother site came from Channel 4’s website, with 1.34% of traffic originating from 02 – the official sponsor of Big Brother for the second year running.

17.65% of traffic leaving the Big Brother site went to RealNetworks, which is providing round the clock audio and video streaming of the Big Brother house.

With the contestants noticeably younger than previous years, this is reflected in the age profile of Channel 4’s website - 26% of visitors are aged between 18 and 24. Visitors are spending an average of 6 minutes and 37 seconds on the site.
