Extend Technologies today launched the latest release of their helpdesk-focused email management solution, BEAP. New features in BEAP v1.3 include the introduction of two entirely new BEAP components, together with a host of enhancements to existing adapters.

Developed to help mail administrators and helpdesk operatives share the management of email across an organisation, BEAP’s collaborative design allows multiple administrators to monitor the status of critical applications and connections – and provides the tools for authorised users to affect changes at the application level.

The first new addition to the BEAP range for 1.3 is the BEAP Poller, which allows administrators to monitor all types of network connections (HTTP, DNS, ICMP, SMTP, IMAP etc.) both inside and beyond the enterprise. By continually checking the availability of various connections, the BEAP Poller can help administrators pinpoint bad connections and take remedial action as soon as possible.

The second all-new BEAP component introduced in 1.3 is the BEAP Custom Adapter, which enables IT administrators to monitor application-specific counters and check the status of services on a wide variety of application components. Unlike other BEAP adapters, which monitor fixed services and counters, the Custom Adapter is entirely configurable by the user. This makes the Custom Adapter perfect for monitoring proprietary or niche applications not already covered by the existing BEAP adapters.

BEAP marketing manager, Matt Fisher, explained the advantages brought by the new additions to BEAP 1.3: “By combining the Custom Adapter and Poller with the existing application-specific adapters, BEAP 1.3 can help mail administrators and helpdesk staff develop a true enterprise-wide centralised mail management strategy. By using the BEAP Server to present a single-screen Service Overview of all monitored applications and connections, organisations can dramatically reduce the effort required to manage multiple mail components and speed up problem identification and resolution.”

Enhancements to the existing BEAP components centre on making it easier for organisations to devolve and share the management of these mission-critical applications. Specific developments include:

• All BEAP adapters now have the ability to continuously monitor Windows Event Logs and send alerts if specific entries are detected

• The GUI of the BEAP Server has been refined to distinguish between operations that affect all users and those that only affect the current user

• The BEAP Server can send alerts as SMS and pager messages via a dial-up land line

• MAILsweeper Adapter searches of a message area can be predefined and saved as browser shortcuts or favourites

• The Exchange Adapter has been redesigned to offer more functionality, including the ability to: continuously monitor information stores and connector queues, search the message tracking logs and view the contents of the connector queues

BEAP 1.3 is available now and a free 30-day evaluation copy can be downloaded from BEAP prices start at £495 for the Adapters and £1,995 for the Server.

About BEAP

BEAP is a single platform for the management of the many applications and network connections that combine to form an organisation’s messaging system – including email servers, content security applications, firewalls and associated infrastructure components. As well as monitoring each applications within the chain individually, BEAP consolidates the ‘vital signs’ from all monitored elements into a single-screen management dashboard. This provides administrators with both a management overview and the necessary control functionality to affect changes at the relevant stages within a process.
