Bede wins three D1 system orders from leading
Taiwanese research laboratories

Bede plc, a global provider of X-ray technology solutions for materials analysis, today announces that it has won three orders for its advanced D1 X-ray tool. The companies, all based in Taiwan, are the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Arima Optoelectronics Co (AOC) and the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU).

ITRI is a national-level R&D organisation for applied research in industrial technology. One of the most important research institutes, it develops new technology to accelerate the industrial development of Taiwan. In January 2003, the new NanoTechnology Research Center (NTRC) was founded within ITRI. NTRC is a cross-institute research center and its mission is to develop the nanotechnology research for industrial applications. The Bede D1 was chosen as an X-ray diffraction characterisation tool to serve the research center. The X-ray tool will be focusing on thin-film structure analysis.

AOC was founded in 1998 and is one of the largest epitaxial wafer suppliers focused on GaN based LED and LD products. To further enhance the company’s R&D capacity, Arima chose a Bede D1 system for detailed film structure studies. Arima already has a Bede QC200 quality control tool on their wafer production line.

NCTU is one of the leading science and engineering universities in Taiwan and an important research institute. Recently, NCTU began to offer studies in advanced materials research including nano-materials. The Bede D1 was chosen as the best solution for their research activities. It will become one of their most important research tools and available for researchers university-wide.
Neil Loxley, Chief Executive of Bede plc commented: “The choice of the Bede D1 system by three leading Taiwanese research laboratories for use in important cutting-edge materials analysis applications, confirms the strong competitive lead enjoyed by Bede in its target markets. These orders with a combined value in excess of $750,000 are further confirmation of a recent improvement seen by Bede in the semiconductor trading environment, with a book to bill for the year to date of 1.9.”
