Profile Opportunity – Stewart Collins ‘Mr Festival’

With Festival Season in full swing Stewart Collins, the man dubbed ‘Mr Festival’, is now available for interviews and profiling. With a career in entertainment spanning two decades he was the obvious choice of Artistic Director for the Henley Festival, Holders Season Barbados and most recently Chelsea Festival.

Stewart has been artistic director for the prestigious Henley Festival since 1991 and has turned it from a local community gala into an internationally renowned music and art extravaganza - drawing in crowds of approximately 4000 on each of the five nights. Year on year he manages to pull together the most extraordinary collection of artists for an event which must be seen to be believed.

Stewart is once again set to achieve the impossible by combining approximately 60 musical acts, including Bryn Terfel, Lesley Garrett, Tim Rice, Stacey Kent, East of Ealing and The Fine Young Cannibals plus art, sculpture and the wildly eccentric from the Spurting Man to Fuego Electica - a dangerously high voltage show. A feast for every sense.

The Holders Season, Barbados, is the premier cultural event in the Caribbean. Held in Johnny and Wendy Kidd’s plantation on the beach – performers include Pavarotti in 1997 followed by Kylie Minogue who featured in a production of The Tempest. The Festival embraces opera, classical music, jazz, comedy and Caribbean music - this year the line up includes Tito Beltran, the Reduced Shakespeare Company, top comedian Rainer Hersch and an Edward Hall adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream. And much much more!

The Chelsea Festival began 10 years ago with small performances in south west London. It expanded to venues like the Royal Hospital and grew to be a substantial professional festival, focussing on Classical music. Following his success with Henley and Holders Barbados, Stewart has been brought in to expand it further and include a more varied mix of art, sculpture and comedy too.

Prior to his work with the Festivals, Stewart was a member of Cantabile for 10 years, touring the world, giving over 10,000 concerts, 150 TV performances and recording 5 commercial albums. He spent a year as a Monk in the Tim Rice/Stephen Oliver musical, Blondel.

Stewart has presented programmes for BBC Radio 2, 3, 4 and the World Service. He writes extensively for music magazines and still writes and performs cabaret songs with cabaret partner, pianist Andy Read.
