Sterling Commerce, one of the world’s largest providers of business integration solutions, has expanded its agreement with Transora, the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry’s standards-based data synchronisation and collaborative commerce solution provider, to offer manufacturers a way to internally prepare item information for uploading to the Transora Data Synchronization Network (TDSN).
By synchronising item information, manufacturers and retailers can eliminate the cost associated with reconciling errors caused by bad data. Currently, more than 30 percent of item information in catalogues used by retailers and manufacturers for replenishment of stock is in error and each of these errors costs €60 to €80 to address, according to an A.T. Kearney study.
Sam Starr, president and CEO of Sterling Commerce, said: “The Global Data Synchronization (GDS) initiative has defined a process and set of standards by which companies can cleanse and share accurate information that they collectively use to conduct business. Sterling Commerce provides manufacturers and retailers with solutions and know-how to address this GDS initiative and to realise significant cost savings and efficiencies.”
Through this new agreement, Sterling Commerce’s Sterling Integrator™ solution (this is known as Gentran Integration Suite in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Latin America) will be one of the few solutions certified to transform data into the Transora XML format and transport the data securely to Transora.
The Transora Data Synchronization Network provides the business intelligence and connectivity to keep information in sync globally. The complete process allows manufacturers to provide the most accurate and updated information on price changes, promotions and new products to retailers and other distributors. Transora and Sterling Commerce are preferred UCCnet alliance partners, and the TDSN has full integration with UCCnet’s services facilitating instant registration with the GLOBALregistry and interoperability with UCCnet’s SYNCengine.
Kimberly-Clark, a leading global consumer products company, has implemented Gentran Integration Suite to translate aggregated product information into XML for transmission to Transora. Transora automatically registers Kimberly-Clark’s information with the UCCnet GLOBALregistry and interoperates with UCCnet retailers in a secure environment.
Phil Nickolai, E-Business Management Information Services at Kimberly-Clark, said:
“Kimberly-Clark is using Sterling Integrator to increase the efficiency of communicating information outside our organisation.”
Members of the Grocery Manufacturers of America established Transora with the shared belief that collaboration and new technologies would be essential to revolutionising the industry and driving future growth. Transora’s investors, primarily Fortune 500 Companies, represent some of the world's best-known brands including The Coca-Cola Company, Kraft Foods, Inc., Johnson & Johnson, and The Procter & Gamble Company.
