New Rockliffe MailSite NS Offers Lowest Total Cost of Ownership of Any Other Messaging System including Microsoft Exchange
London, UK, 26th June 2003 - Technology benchmarking specialist, Osterman Research has completed a detailed analysis of the total cost of ownership (TCO) for the five messaging systems utilised by Internet service providers to provide email and related services including anti-spam. In comparisons against Microsoft Exchange among other products, Osterman found that Rockliffe’s MailSite NS (Non-Stop) had the lowest per year and three-year TCO.
Developed by Rockliffe and HP to run on HP NonStop servers, MailSite NS offers a true 24 x 7 continuous availability, super-scalable messaging solution with built-in spam filtering and virus scanning software. Osterman analysed MailSite NS alongside four other messaging systems including Critical Path Messaging Server, Sun ONE Messaging Server, Microsoft Exchange and Openwave Email Mx. For the purposes of the analysis each messaging system was designed to support a mailbox quota of 10Mb per user and to provide email services to one million subscribers.
The analysis pinpointed how operating costs for most messaging systems escalate over time and how great a proportion - over 44% in some cases - of the TCO is represented by administrative and maintenance labour costs. For an email service based on Microsoft Exchange these recurring and other costs mean that the three-year TCO can be around $20.5 million. This compares to a similarly configured system based on Rockliffe MailSite NS with a three year TCO of $7.4 million.
In its benchmarking of systems Osterman identified the following advantages of MailSite NS:
· A very low, non-recurring per mailbox licence fee of only $1.00.
· Lower administrative and management maintenance requirements, which can be nearly 5 times less than Microsoft Exchange, for example.
· Fewer points of hardware failure, so less maintenance expenditure and increased service reliability.
