Iconium Limited is today announcing the availability of the first commercial version of its web based software solution designed to monitor and report unusual and suspicious activities on internal networks. To be known as ESPÔ, the new product makes comprehensive state-of-the–art internal IT security more affordable at all levels of IT user.
ESP focus is on internal security and complements other security systems, such as Firewalls and virus protection aimed at preventing attacks from external sources. It is designed to actively monitor an organisation’s network in real time and automatically alert management to any unusual or suspicious activity. This is achieved via browser based console and e-mail messaging.
Designed to comply with ISO-17799, the international standard for Information Security Management, ESP is able to monitor and report on some 6500-event types on a wide range of network devices. ESP agents sit on servers and workstations throughout a user organisation. By detecting defined types of activities as they occur, security incidents are identified, notified and may be acted upon immediately, thus minimising possible consequential damage.
ESP has been developed with the help and cooperation of The Royal and Sun Alliance, which is now the first commercial user of the product.
Commenting on the launch of ESP, Managing Director John Potter comments, “whilst the most publicised side of IT security is focussed on attacks from the outside, more security breaches come from inside organisations, IDC say up to 60%.
“Information is perhaps the most valuable operational asset of any organisation. Our mission is to provide a virtual information security guard that has its eye on infringements that might be cause for serious concern, such as changes to critical files, or repeated incorrect log-ons. ESP has the right user definable tools to protect against such issues at an affordable cost, for as little as 50p per workstation per month” adds Potter.
“What is the point of spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on sophisticated information storage and business continuance systems, yet leave the door wide open for internal security breaches?” he asks.
ESP is available on software licence purchase or rental. Prices are charged on a per server and per workstation basis. Agents start at £290 per server and £29 per workstation for less than 100 servers. The ESP management server software costs £7500. There are price break discounts based on quantity.
There are two levels of maintenance, standard and enhanced. Standard maintenance provides for minor release updates and cost 18% of the purchase price per annum. Enhanced maintenance, which includes all new software releases, implementation consultancy and site checks every 6 months, costs 30% of the purchase price per annum. ESP rental prices are for one, three and five year periods and also reflect volume discounts.
As an example, an enterprise of 45 servers and 190 workstations would cost in the region of £53,000 or, on the three year rental, £1344 per month (£47,700 over the period). These prices mark a significant cut in cost for prospective users. Competitive products from such companies as such as IBM and Computer Associates can be as much as 100% more.
Rental is provided by RentStore, the Storage and Security software arm of The Intelco Group plc.
