MX, the alliance of leading mobile and wireless technology businesses has appointed 29 year old Tracey Ward to head up the organisation. Tracey joins from Orange, where she was Manager of Marketing and Communications for the company's International Developer Support activity.

Commenting on her appointment, Ward said:

"Having spent almost six years at Orange in various technical and commercial roles, I was looking for a Scottish based position with a national and international outlook. MX fits the bill perfectly as it has been formed from a core of Scottish based businesses, with support from Scottish Enterprise. My role is to spread the word here and elsewhere about the strength of the mobile applications community. MX exists to encourage partnership between the members as well as building bridges with platform suppliers, telecommunications networks, potential customers and other alliances internationally."

MX has attracted support from major players such as Orange, Hutchison 3G, Oracle and Hewlett Packard and Tracey Ward is keen to reach out to more business partners and members:

"There needs to be constant communication between all parts of the value chain including innovative mobile application developers and the international telecommunications and IT giants. The latter need content and applications, while the former need routes to market, therefore it is in the interest of both to create ongoing partnerships. MX is also keen to exploit the growing interest from key vertical markets such as healthcare, retail, consumer and tourism and match up our members with partners that recognise the business value of implementing wireless and mobile solutions."

MX was launched last year and has already recruited some of the leading lights of mobile and wireless technology. Key members include Justfone (low cost location tracking systems using mobile handsets); Argyll Telecom (leading provider of lone worker monitoring systems); JourneyPlan (UK transport timetables delivered to hand-held devices); Hillington Park Innovation Centre (successful technology incubator unit and wireless laboratory); Saw-You (unique consumer application engine); Purple Patch (leading wireless network provider); Yakara (innovative work team communication product) and Mobiqa (unique mobile phone based ticketing technology).

MX member technologies will be making a key contribution to the operation of this year's 'e-Business week', a series of Scotland-wide events co-ordinated by Scottish Enterprise. MX already collaborates with Hillington Park Innovation Centre and Scottish IT association, Scotland IS and on a series of highly successful seminars, tackling key issues in the wireless/mobile sector. MX is also sponsoring an award for the best use of wireless technology in e-business, as part of the 2003 Winners at the Web (W@W) awards organised by Scottish Enterprise.

Tracey Ward sees MX moving into a new realm over the next twelve months:

"MX has done well to establish itself as a core of expertise and reference in the mobile and wireless arena. Over the next twelve months I will be taking the message of collaboration and innovation to a wider audience both within and out-with Scotland, pursuing and generating business opportunities for the members."
