Ortho Group Ltd, a specialist provider of orthopaedic products and services, has placed an order for a new finance and business management solution, worth nearly £43,000, with leading Microsoft Business Solutions partner Advantage Business Systems. Based in the UK, Ortho Group Ltd manufactures and distributes prosthetic devices across Europe and operates a number of clinics at major hospitals to provide configuration and build services for prosthetic limbs and orthopaedic support devices.

Ortho Group will initially implement Microsoft Business Solutions – Navision in its Oxfordshire head office and its service business, with a range of financial modules including General Ledger, Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Stock Control, Sales Order Processing and Purchase Order Processing.

Richard Harrison, Finance Director at Ortho Group, outlines the challenges that the organisation faced, “Comprising a number of business units across several countries, each unit had been reliant upon its own legacy system, however, these differed widely across the business and there was no integration between them. Furthermore, there was a lack of development and support for these products”.

Harrison was keen to replace the disparate incumbent systems with a single integrated and scalable solution.

“We needed a system that would enable us to get management information quickly and accurately to assist in the decision making process,” he comments. “In addition, it was essential to eliminate any duplication that existed in data entry procedures and achieve greater integration between the operations and finance systems”. Working to a tight, fixed deadline, it was particularly important for Ortho Group to find the right solution and implementation partner fast.

Harrison was quickly convinced that Microsoft Business Solutions – Navision would meet his requirements. “As a business solution, Microsoft Business Solutions - Navision is strengthened by the backing of Microsoft, which gave us the reassurance of guaranteed ongoing development and support”, he explains. This was complemented by the product’s functionality: firstly being applicable to both the services and manufacturing business; secondly its flexibility in terms of integration; and lastly, its foreign language functionality, responding to Ortho Groups’ operations requirements across five European countries and languages.

On his choice of Advantage Business Systems as implementation partner, Harrison continues, “We are a mid-sized company with specific business requirements. From the outset, Advantage gave me the confidence that it understood both the software and our business needs extremely well”.

Ortho Group will be working to a tight implementation timetable. Harrison concludes, “Given our requirements for a particularly rapid implementation, Advantage could commit to working within our short time frame and enable us to meet our deadlines. Added to its strong support team and a sound track record within business solutions, I feel confident that I have made the right choice”.

Following the initial implementation of the financial and distribution suite into its service business, Ortho Group plans to introduce Microsoft Business Solutions - Navision’s manufacturing functionality into its product business.
