Palo Alto Software, a developer and publisher of business planning software has developed and launched two new business planning products for the changing profile of today’s entrepreneur. According to research from Palo Alto Software and Barclays Bank*, almost half of new businesses are now started by professionals and middle managers. As a result, the changing profile of today’s UK entrepreneur is driving the change in business planning software.

According to Palo Alto Software, there are three profiles for today’s entrepreneur:

The first-time entrepreneur – usually the first business plan they have attempted to write and, in most cases, they are writing their plan to satisfy someone else as they seek initial or additional financing. They want the task to be easily completed in the most efficient way possible.

The professional/middle manager - expect a higher level of performance and flexibility from business planning software and are quick to dismiss the software if it does not meet these higher expectations. Mostly, they need business planning tools to help them with an event that represents change and the need for better planning, such as growth, cutbacks, or market shifts, rather than just driven by the need for new capital.

Academics – like first-time entrepreneurs, school, college and undergraduate levels are looking for easy, simple, good support, and a path to create a business plan to make them look as competent as possible. At MBA level, entrepreneurs have the same high expectations for business planning tools as professionals/middle managers.

Tim Berry, founder and president of Palo Alto Software said, “Today’s entrepreneurs vary enormously in terms of their business planning expertise and that they’re all trying to achieve very different objectives – from attracting finance to responding to changing market conditions. In light of this, Palo Alto Software has developed two new business planning tools – Business Plan Pro 2004 and Business Plan Pro 2004 PREMIER - to serve very different needs that go far beyond what template-based business planning tools can offer.

There’s a clear need amongst professionals and middle managers for high-end planning tools with a high degree of additional spreadsheet power and customisability. Whilst first-time entrepreneurs and academics, may see the business plan as an obstacle and want to be quickly guided through the process of creating a business plan.”

Business Plan Pro 2004
For the entrepreneur who is starting a new company, launching new products, or seeking funding or partners, Business Plan Pro 2004 is software that produces professional business plans quickly and easily. Unlike other business planning software, Business Plan Pro 2004 has empowered them to efficiently accomplish their goals with an impressive plan proven to get results.
