"Completes third phase of expansion to become a global telecom giant"

Data Access (India) Limited, India’s fastest growing international telecom carrier, today announced the launch of its UK operation to provide International Long Distance Services (ILD). This will be driven through its newly incorporated company, Data Access Telecom Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Data Access America Inc. Data Access is the first Indian telecoms company to enter the UK market, having successfully established operations in India and USA.

Data Access already had a switch on lease in London that was carrying Indian traffic. With the launch of its UK operation, Data Access has acquired a second switch to provide additional switching capacity. The two switches in London will have a combined capacity to handle 18 million minutes of voice traffic per day. The UK operation will enable the company to leverage business across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

Data Access wants to make the UK operation a global clearinghouse, which is made possible by the fact that London is a global telecommunications hub. The company will therefore focus on the exchange of significant volumes of voice traffic globally. Data Access also plans to add international roaming and SMS text messaging services on its network in conjunction with various European mobile operators.

Mr Siddhartha Ray, founder and managing director, Data Access (India) Ltd said at launch of Data Access Telecom Ltd: “The launch our UK operation marks the third phase of our plan to become a truly global telecom player, and London will be handling 18 million minutes of voice traffic per day right from the start. With the UK switch up and running, we will create synergies with the US and from this launch pad we will expand into EMEA and Latin markets from our London base.”

Incorporated in the year 2003, Data Access Telecom Ltd is a full-fledged facility based carrier in the UK. The twin switches together occupy a combined space of over 10,000 sq ft, handling over seven billion minutes of traffic per annum. The facility will cater for the entire EMEA region and also the Confederation of Independent States (CIS).

Pat Nabhan, UK board director, Data Access Telecom Ltd said: “The launch of our UK operation heralds a new beginning for us and paves the way for us to become a multi-national telecom player. We will facilitate global hubbing operations through the UK facility with our interconnect agreements with leading telecom carriers.”
