Scottish IT specialists Forth Active are leading the way in the battle to defeat unsolicited email, more commonly known as spam.
The Glenrothes based firm have recently introduced to the UK a revolutionary piece of hardware and it is already proving to be the most effective anti-spam tool on the market.
Unlike existing anti-spam software, Forth Active's unique solution, known as the Spam Box, cannot get infected itself. It uses six different methods to filter out unwanted emails before they reach a computer. Through the application of sophisticated mathematics, the Spam Box intelligently learns to recognise spam, meaning that it becomes even more effective as time goes on.
Businesses and organisations have shown an interest in the Spam Box, not only because it is so effective, but also because it is straightforward to use. All a user needs to do is plug the Spam Box into their PC and that's it! There is no software to update (the Spam Box does this automatically) and it does not require any specialist skill or dedicated administration to run.
"Spam has become a massive problem for all IT users," says Forth Active's Stewart Webb. "Everyday, companies are inundated with pernicious emails containing anything from pornography to harmful viruses. The problem is only going to get worse, with estimates that, by 2005, spam will account for fifty percent of all email."
"Hundreds of business hours are lost every week due to the time spent manually reviewing and deleting unsolicited email, costing firms thousands of pounds. And if a virus gets into a PC or network, then the results can be financially devastating."
"That's why we are particularly excited by our Spam Box. It is the most effective anti-spam solution currently available and has the potential to save firms a great deal of money."
"Not only that, it can be used in other places where IT users need to be protected from the unsuitable nature of many unsolicited emails, such as schools."
"The Spam Box is an easy and great value solution. It is fully configurable and can handle 100,000 emails per hour. What's more, while some less effective anti-spam solutions cost in excess of £20,000, Forth Active will supply and install the spam box anywhere in the United Kingdom for under £3000!"
