23rd September 2003 - The Thames Gateway London Partnership has outsourced its complete IT requirements to Loftus ITNS – a division of the IT Techcare Group, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) consulting and services group of companies.

The Thames Gateway London Partnership (TGLP) is a sub-regional alliance of thirteen local authorities, five universities, the Learning & Skills Council London East and the London Development Agency working together with the private sector, local communities and strategic agencies to deliver the economic, physical and social regeneration of the Thames Gateway in London. Extending from Tower Bridge eastwards to Thurrock and Dartford, the area has a powerful strategic location offering development opportunities for new jobs and homes, as well as environmental improvements.

Following a successful tendering procedure, Loftus secured the contract with TGLP to design, deliver, install and manage their complete IT network. The aim of the project is to create a network that allows all TGLP staff to communicate more easily. Previously, information was not being held centrally, communication platforms such as MS Exchange were not being fully utilised and the technology was not exploited to the full.

“In the past 12 months significant steps have been taken to develop the Thames Gateway – it is actually Europe's largest and most ambitious regeneration initiative,” comments Oliver Shepherd, Projects and Administration Officer at TGLP. “We realised that we needed to make significant IT changes to accommodate this growth, and out of all the companies that tendered, Loftus had the vision, the technical understanding, but were also the most flexible.”

Nicholas Meek, Sales Director at Loftus adds: “One of TGLP’s key requirements is a robust client/server network that allows for greater ease of communication. As many of their staff are mobile, designing a secure platform to gather and update information remotely is essential; this is being achieved with a secure VPN (virtual private network).”

Significant training is also being provided to all staff to ensure that they have an understanding of the new technology and how it can benefit them. In addition, the new server will allow information to be shared easily by all staff and the set up of a file management system will ensure that all documents can be accessed effortlessly.

Loftus will also manage and support the network, through a mixture of helpdesk, remote and on-site support. This allows any day-to-day issues to be resolved quickly. As a pro-active measure, Loftus will spend one day per month on-site troubleshooting the network and performing health checks to ensure that things are running smoothly, and anticipating and resolving potential issues before they become business critical.
