Dateline 14 Oct 2003 – Today sees the launch of the first independent Storage Area Network (SAN) operational management solution. To be known as NetWisdom™, the new solution is set to provide ICT managers with a central consol through which network operations can be managed on a daily basis. When issues of performance are identified, they can be quickly analysed and decisions based on causes, not symptoms, implemented.


Through a number of network monitoring points, known as Test Access Points (TAPs) located at strategic points throughout a SAN, NetWisdom monitors a number of defined processes, such as storage response times or transaction completion times. Performance level alarms for each TAP are set to alert management at the earliest opportunity to potential problems. A NetWisdom display station provides the user with a central management console, through which various levels of operational detail may be accessed. Comprehensive management software is provided with NetWisdom, that performs statistical analysis, generates alarms and records storage centric statistics for play-back.


GCH Managing Director, Neil Collier believes that as networks become more complex and their level of efficiency tied to overall corporate performance, the need for unbiased Network Operational Management, such as that provided by NetWisdom, is fast becomes a critical factor. The NetWisdom™ solution is provided on a monthly fee basis that covers the initial consultation, installation and training costs too. A minimum monthly cost of £450 provides for 1 x 8 port Tap with the associated hardware probes, a central consol with portal and viewing software. The complete solution is provided free of charge for the first three months to allow for setting up and user familiarisation. NetWisdom support and maintenance is included within the monthly fee.
